My start up is slow!

Okay, a fresh install made...starts up at least a bit faster. But of course I missed some savings before installing.
My windows live mail...where did it save the e-mails on the hard-drive? They should still be around somewhere on the windows.old file? Or? (they are gone now anyway)

i done the exact same thing (but i did not have any old files) i have lost a crap load of important emails, like subscriptions and current ebay emails. all....gone.

im not sure where it saves the files/emails maybe try googling it and see what you find. i think its stupid how it fetches them from the servers, it should copy them so it is still in the server and on your pc that way if you do format ect. you dont loose all your emails! oh well. let me know if you find out where it stores them, i would be interested for future reference.

My Win7 installation is quite new and it's on HP Compaq CQ45 102 TU with 3Gigs RAM. It take 29 secs to get to the log on screen another eight seconds to load the desktop..almost nothing on it...and a further sixteen seconds for the processor usage to come back to below 20% and I can load IE before then. My virus prog is now MSE. Before Win7 I was running XP Pro and it was a dog then! I also use IoBits ASC, not sure if that helps or not.

Slow boot

Hey,

I also have the same problem.

Upgraded from windows home basic to Windows 7 64 bit home premium and my boot time is not particularly quick. It is not massively slow - about 120 seconds, but seeing others boot times makes me wonder why mine is slow!

System is a Vaio VGN-125J and is only a few months old. Came with option to upgrade to Win 7 when that came out so I used the upgrade disc and did a clean install.

Tried disabling the GUI on the windows start up (saw in another thread) but that didn't improve matters.

Any tips on what to do?

I wish I knew, mine takes about 3 minutes. I have tried every tip I've read short of a clean install. That scares me as I have about 200 gigs of programs and data, and no other drive to save/back it up on.

Win 7 is a normal WinHog

I have just recently installed W7 and all I can say is that is no different than any other Windows OS. It is a memory Hog, it is slow and it is full of problems. My system updates (takes more space with bandaids) daily. Jeez, Bill, "What's good for Microsoft is good for the World," doesn't work...........Look at General Motors. Build a good OS or quit the business!
