HD5970 to launch on Nov 18th

That is a monster 'single' card. I was debating to go for two 5870's CF or a single 5970 next upgrade. I'm definitely leaning towards a single 5970 now.

The little extra grunt of two 5870's isn't really worth the hassle. At least I have quite a few months to make a decision.

this card is an ABSOLUTE MONSTER!!

im just trying to convince the missus of the need to go ATI next year....lol

the problem i have with this card is my PCIe 1.1 slots, these slots deliver 75w, add to that the ''75w 6pin'' & ''150w 8pin''..... this gives us our 300w stock limit

its a shame considering this card is being released with a quoted...''Massive overclicking ability'' ....the PCIe 2.0 slot delivers 150w & therefor gives me an extra 50w to play with..

so they should state that in order to fully utilize this card a PCIe 2.0 slot is required...

crossfire HD5970 bench...

what can i say........ bear in mind this is with immature drivers, this card has SERIOUS potential.

In this review, we paired two Radeon HD 5970 accelerators by HIS in a 4-way ATI CrossFireX setup. 4-way, since there are four physical GPUs working in tandem. It should give you an idea of what the setup that stands to be the best money can buy really offers. The findings of this review will also tell you how four AMD Cypress GPUs are able to upscale, and whether the amount of graphics processing power is relevant for today's applications.

Since the ASUS EAH5970 review already covered every aspect about the card, we will jump straight on to the performance figures. Installation of HD 5970 CrossFireX is as easy as installing any other multi-GPU setup. Ensure that your motherboard features two PCI-Express slots for the cards to be installed in, and supports the ATI CrossFire technology. Also, ensure that your power-supply unit is reasonably powerful. Based on our findings, and given our test machine, we recommend at least a 750W power-supply. Install the two accelerators, upon installing the drivers, you will be prompted to enable CrossFireX, and will be able to verify if the two cards are working in tandem.

these cards dont like the low resolutions, but crank it up & watch it fly!!

i think ATI are certainly on to a winner with the 5 series

75fps @ 1920x1200 4xAA , add to that driver immaturity, couple that with the fact these cards will clock from 725/4000 to 1000/6000 with a slight voltage jump..

They have to be flapping joking! That's not price gouging - that's price RAPE

You could build a pretty decnet system for that in the states. I think it's an awesome card but 600.00 for a graphic card.I dig computers but Pimpen myself out at .25 a shot this will never happen.:devil:

Yeah, it's ludicrous, especially since it's already above the ATI specified RRP of $499 USD and that the Aus dollar is not that far behind the USD at the moment.

I'll pay 1100 or more in AUD for a graphics card if it can play Crysis @ 1080p fully maxed out - 16AA, 16AF with at least 50fps. If not, I'll go for a weaker 5850 - if its ever in stock.
