OSX and Windows 7 Dual Boot

Same problem

I am having the same problem. Installed windows 7, rebooted, installed iAtkos OS X86, rebooted, used the windows 7 disk to do the repair method as stated and it would not repair it. I spent a day or two setting up windows 7 and now im on the road so I really need to get it back up and running without doing a fresh install of everything again (stupid of me to try this i know). Any way to install the boot loader from OS X onto the windows partition? I found this program NTFS-3G for Mac OS X that will allow for writing to ntfs (windows) partitions from os x. Can anyone point me in the right direction, I dont want to mess things up any further. Thanks!

I have dual boot W7 and OSX 10.5.6.

All you need to do is first , install W7. Then, create a new partition for your osx within W7 , format it as fat32 or ntfs and set to to be "active".

Then run the osx installation and before you start the install, go to Utilities and "disk utility" , select the partition you created from W7 and format it as Journaled (don't delete it!).

Then, install as you would normally, selecting this partition as your installation target. (don't forget to customize your OSX installation with the necessary drivers for you system.)

After installation is complete, you will need to repair your W7 boot loader, cause you probably won't be able to boot W7.
Insert the W7 installation DVD, at the first installation screen select your language etc, and at the second screen select "repair computer".
This will bring the W7 boot loader back, so you can boot W7.

Now you won't be able to load osx!
So boot in Windows 7, and unhide your hidden 200MB partition:

1. In disk management, assign a drive letter for your 200MB hidden partition.

2.Download EasyBCD and add a new boot entry, select MacOS, Generic X86, Add, Save. That's it.

You can now have dual boot with W7 and OSX

What do you mean "within Windows"? You mean with a Windows partitioning software? Sorry for the bump. There's just no way to ask this in a new topic.

@yonyz: Yes, I would assume they mean creating a partition using "Disk Management" within Windows.

I'm assuming that you guys are using hacked copies of OSX which are allowing you to install onto the PC in the first place. Aside from that, you'd have to use something like the EFI-x module (which is what i am doing) or some other flavor of hackintosh (boot 132 + chameleon).

Im currently typing from Ubuntu, loading Kalyway 10.5.2, and running Windows 7 and hope the little guide from the first page is correct. I will state that if I do screw this up..all I gotta do is re-install..lol...It'll give me something to do.

If I'm assuming correctly, the 200mb folder is the boot partition..right??If not, why do you need to assign it a drive letter in the first place??

So let me get this right.

Install 7
Install Mac(Kalyway 10.5.2)
Repair 7 with your install disk
Add an option With EasyBCD(does it matter what bootloader you used or??)

and as far as I have read elsewhere, that should be it..Wjhats the 200mb partition for??

Got a grub error(17)

Went to repair Windows with my DVD and got this.

Root cause found:
System volume disk is corrupt.

Repair action:File system repair(chkdsk)
Result:Failed.Error code=0x1f
Time Taken:0ms

I am know running Mac OS X 10.5.2 and I do like it, its just I like Windows 7 as well, and know I don't have it..lol

Hi everyone,
I have a problem when setting up OS X.
I finished set up Windows7 and also updated it few times. After that set up OS X into laptop, my touchpad and keyboard is not working. I cannot key in anything, just can use usb mouse to continue setup. It can work well until here.
After restart laptop and choose OS X to boot, until the part key in all the information for register of MAC, I cannot key in at all. I don't know what's going on.
Can any bro help me to work it out? I tried to do many times but still same result. Now, my keyboard can work in Windows 7 but my touchpad still dead. No function at all.

I did that EXACT same thing on my Windows 7 x64. Except the only difference is i also did OSX Snow Leopard (10.6). And i used a bootable USB instead of CD.

I managed to get it work easly!

I had a successful previous experience dual booting with xp and os x (iatkos7) (booting with file chain0 in drive c:/)

I Followed this tutorial, but instead of 'kalyway' i've used 'iatkos 7' CD (worked better for me, use what's better for you, the method is what matters here)

Last week i got windows 7, so i wanted to upgrade my xp for win 7 without messing my os x (that gave me so much troubble to get it to work!!).

So i installed Windows 7 in my xp partition (tipical install, formating C:/ drive, etc).
After installing windows 7 i did not boot with windows 7 cd and repair it.
Instead, i've made the same way as in tutorial, i've booted with Gparted, managed flags and put my c:/ as a bootable drive again. (Follow tutorial)

So i got my windows 7 system booting nice and couldn't get to my os x system as expected.

In windows 7 i've downloaded the EasyBCD1.7.2 then added a new mac os entry (type: generic x86 PC)
It creates a file in path C:/NST/nst_mac.MBR

What i did was simply deleted the file nst_mac.MBR created by the new entry, then get my old file 'chain0', copy/paste there and rename it to the same name 'nst_mac.MBR' reboot and yes, two working OS

Hi there. I've tried the method you described but i'm having trouble. Mac OS refuses to install. The installation process goes to a certain point and then just stops. It freezes. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. I used an original Mac OS Leopard installation DVD on an Intel E5200 with a P35 chipset. You think it might be a hardware issue? Thanks

Could be a hardware issue or could be the distribution you are using. You might be able to tweak the BIOS until it works, or you may need to try another distribution (iDeneb, iAtkos etc). Have a look at this thread and read my post #7, and reference the included links within, there is tons of good info.

I was trying to stay away from the iDaneb distribution, but I guess I'll try that eventually. Also, I read something very interesting just before Windows 7 was released. They said that Windows 7 would come with a response to MAC OS's Boot Camp. It would be called Training Camp and let you install Mac OS from within Windows 7. I don't have a link right now, but the article was on a pretty big technical site so I was inclined to believe it. Anyone know anything about this...?

You might be right. I thought that the official release was more stable. Also, I once read that my PC was not compatible with any version of iDaneb (who knows...?) i guess I'll give it a try. Thanks.
