BSOD Error

Hi there,

I'm new the the forums, but I'm glad they are here as I'm receiving a blue screen of death error on my newly installed Windows 7 Ultimate - 64 bit. I only started getting the BSOD once I installed an additional 2GB of ram taking me up to 6GB. They are all the same.

I will update this post with my system specs asap (just want to post this in case I blue screen again), but for now I'd like to post the error:

Try rebooting your system in Safe Mode (F8) and let us know if this BSOD returns.

It would be helpful if you also filled out your system specs. It will make it easier for us to determine the root cause of your issue.

Hi there,

I just took the time to fill out my system specs if you want to take a quick look. If I boot up in safe mode, what will that tell me exactly? That the system is running fine in terms of hardware? Also, I forgot to mention that I got the BSOD while I was watching a DVD through VLC Player, but it also happened once while I was browsing through Firefox, and not Firefox won't even open.

I will take a look, as will others. Thank You. If you can boot up in safe mode without the BSODs occurring that the culprit is most likely a bad driver.

Was this install a clean install or was it an upgrade install? If it was an upgrade install, what was your previous operating system?

Have you tried updating all of your device drivers? Make sure that you are using only -64bit drivers.

Hey Crazee,

I did a clean install. I will boot up in safe mode, but first I'm testing to see if it's the RAM. So, I took out the additional 2GB stick. I have to go to work soon, so this may take some time.

I installed all the new drivers from the websites of all the manufacturers, and from what I believe most are for 64-bit. Some didn't specify, so I may have to double check.

Very interesting. VERY! So, what does this mean? I've been using the same RAM with Windows XP SP3 before I just upgraded with no problems (ie: Gaming). Will I have more issues now with Windows 7 and of course unavoidable ones? For now, I've taken the extra stick out, and so far so good.

Hey Jack, I won't be able to post that minidump unless it happens again. I actually just did a system restore because I was trying to downgrade to Windows Media Player 11 and for some reason it didn't work (I followed the steps to a T), then I couldn't even get WMP12 working again. So, I just did the system restore.

I think it's the RAM as it's not support by my motherboard as belikexp says. I've sent an email to Gigabyte seeing if they can support in anyway. If anything I'll just buy new RAM. So, any takers on my old set?

Just because it's not listed doesn't mean it won't work.

If your interested crucial does support your motherboard.

Kingston doesn't list yours.

You can check other manufactures as well. It's best if they list your motherboard.
