WAN in windows set to HSPDA ONLY !!?

Im wondering how I configure WAN in windows 7 to use HSPDA/HSPA ONLY ??

The reason is to avoid using Lenovo's software, since I have to start it manually on every OS startup.

Hope someone can help :-D

Hi, i would've thought this is a hardware driven property rather than an OS. You would have configured the types of network access with devices such as USB modem. How you configured the access, could be through a software that comes with the modem.

It is not USB Modem..
Its a Lenovo Laptop with integrated WAN, the SIM card is placed inside the laptop, not in an external device.
The integrated device is an Ericsson F3507g Broadband minicard device.

I have installed the driver F3507g Mobile Broadband driver and it works fine.

I am using software from Lenovo (Lenovo's Internet Connection) to make sure I'm only connected to HSPDA/HSPA. In this software I can choose connection methods and more.

I want to use the WINDOWS 7 tool ONLY.. but I dont know how to configure it to ONLY use HSPDA/HSPA.

I used the UBS modem as an example, eg Huweii USB modem.
Like i said, this is a a feature of the adapter, and the software that comes with it will be where you want to configure. I know this Ericsson F3507g Broadband minicard device you are talking about (lets just say i have certified your Lenovo machine machine for our client). The default utility on windows does not to my knowledge allow for switching or configuring between 802.11 and HSPDA (SIM type network), if you want use HSPDA only, you will need to not use Windows uility, rather the software that comes with the HSPDA type wireless adapter.
If you have an iphone, you would know that it can either be configured to use 3G or wifi, very much a function of the device, not OS.

Just thought the OS had that property in the software/driver, but seems only Lenovo software can do it then.

You can't use the Ericsson F3507g Broadband minicard device's utility?

With Windows, you can either let windows configure your wifi through the builtin utility OR you can tell it to use a third party software. It's either one or the other.

Cases where you have an integrated builtin or an external USB device, perhaps more so for the latter, Windows's 802.11 and that device's wifi can stand alone. Eg, if i have a USB modem attached to my T60, i can launch the USB's program and connect to the internet. At the same timei can use my W7's builtin utility to connect to my wireless router's network.

If so, go to Network and sharing center, go to "Change adapter settings", disable all other adapters you see there except the Ericsson F3507g Broadband minicard. That way your internet connection will use Ericsson F3507g Broadband minicard ONLY.

If what you mean is to force the Ericsson F3507g Broadband minicard to only use HSDPA/HSPA and not GPRS or EDGE, then you can't do anything about it... HSDPA/HSPA/GPRS/EGDE are managed by the hardware, if it lost HSPA/HSDPA signal, it will fallback to EDGE/GPRS signal automatically, unless you hack the firmware...

Doesn't matter if he wants to use the mini card or the wifi on the motherboard. He can use both, as both are independent of one another (one is a PCIe/USB connection and the other is onboard, you know what i mean if the terminology is not right). The mini card is no different to a USB modem, in that it uses a SIM for connection to the internet which goes through different protocols. The tool that comes with the mini card is the only way that will allow him to access the net with EDGE. Windows utility will let him access the net using 802.11/wifi only.

I can only think of smartphones, eg iphone that will allow you to switch between EDGE and Wifi at will. No computer that i know does this.

When you launch the tool, and connect via it, what is shown in the Network and Sharing centre? the lenovo software meaning the W7 builtin utility?

frank77, for all I know, every 3G modem out there will fall back to lower generation signals automatically, you can't control it in any way...

I have an iPhone, when it lost 3G signal, it MUST fallback to EDGE/GPRS, it's standard safety precaution. I have several other 3G modems, all of them will fallback to GPRS/EDGE/CDMA 2000 1x automatically, you can't control it unless you hack into the firmware and state to the hardware directly and say if it doesn't find ANY 3G signal (HSPA/HSDPA/UMTS), shutdown the radio... By then you'll lost all network connection...

Anyway, we're here to help you voluntarily... you should, in return reply nicely, we are people too... unless you don't expect any answers...

Well zzz, it seems only those with smartphones, and the king is the iphone knows what we meant.

I think i have already asnwered the OP's question. You cannot configure the Windows builtin utility the way you can on the thirdparty software. This means you cannot configure the Windows utility to use HSPDA. Windows uses wifi (until manufacturers of laptops decided to put in a built in SIM card slot, then this is when Microsoft might make the Windows utility configurable) . If he wants to use 3G/EDGE/HSPDA whatever the adapter was made to be used with, then he needs to look at the thirdparty software (that's why they supplied it - If Erricson thinks their devices can be used with Windows builtin utility, then why did they create the thirdparty software?).

How the software is configured to use this and that, I don't have it so how do i know? But even if I do have the software my machine doesnt have the ericcson card so no point.

All that said, if someone can override the above, with knowing how to configure the Windows builtin utility to use HSPDA, then i take my replies back.

Now I really wonder if that Ericsson card can really do that (only connect to HSPA/HSDPA)... that would rock... but when it lost signal, it would lost network connection, and that would suck... hmm...
Several modems I have/had never had such option (only use HSPA, never fallback to EDGE/GPRS). Oh well... it's still by far still way too geeky, way too hard compared to my iPhone tethering process... (which is: enable tethering in Settings, plug the iPhone to the computer, and it suddenly connected (!!!) ). iPhone is still the king of smartphones (although it does have many limitations, but still ). You don't even need to install ANY driver to tether iPhone !!!

Err, I googled your Huawei E160 USB, it doesn't have Wifi interface onboard... By the way, Wifi (802.11[a/b/g/n]) standard is completely different compared to cellular data (HSPA/HSDPA/HSUPA/UMTS), I don't see how both can be on [the same device] and online at the same time, load balancing both Wifi and 3G connections on a ~60 bucks USB stick device. Although that would be spectacularly amazing yet utterly useless...

I think you are missing something (I don't know what)...

Am i getting mixed up with my iphone and the E160? or was I? It's been a while but thanks for pointing that out. I think i got carry away with making the point that you can only use the utility from the ericcson device to manage EDGE connects (not Windows builtin utility). I now can't remember if i have also used the E160G's utility to manage the machine's wifi as well.
