Windows 7 Updates for New laptop

I did something.. that had to do with 3 different kinds of set up.. I think I chose the Work group.. I was so tired when I finally got to that part.. I should have left it alone... so I'm not sure I've completed what I should have been doing. that's why I ask about it.

But workgroup is for sharing files or printers between PCs. That has nothing to do with securing the router. Who setup your router?

If you try to connect to your router, does it ask you type in a key?

whs.. I did whatever has been done to it.
the work group thing is what I did..
I don't recall being ask for a passowrd at all... after the work group thing was finished I was falling asleep.. so I stopped and went to bed.

I hope I've not messed up something important... surely if so ..there must be a work around.

Zomby I gave the laptop a name..( khg84hjs73ng9..not real )when I try to connect.. I have to type in my password for..the laptop name I gave it...then I'm off and running all over the internet.
I don't recall being ask about a key.

Let's check. Open an Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 into the address field and let's see whether your router control comes up. If that does not work try 192.168.1.2. If it asks for name and paswword use admin for name and password for password (not very innovative, I know). If you get in, snoop around for the Wap2 password and see whether that is one you set. If not, put one in that you can remember. The more letters/numbers, the better.

What you can try.. in a box.(Dignose Connection problems)

Google page opened;
I P addresses used by several router Mfgs as a default address for the router itself. etc.

Are you wired to the router ? You have to be wired to the router to make changes.
At least with my equipment anyway.

192.168.1.1 is the default.

I have the laptop plugged in to my hub.. YES.....
the router has all green lights showing.. at the very top icon.. there's a lock icon..showing that's green also

Zombie is right - I forgot to mention that. The operation only works with a system that is hard wired to the router.

PS: now you confuse me because you call it a hub. Is that a router or a hub (switch) ??

I'll go back to the desk and plug the lapyop in the hub.. and follow your instructions

Ok I typed in the numbers again.. as you requested..192.168.1.1
I get the same message as before.. I E cannot display the webpage.. etc.

Try 192.168.0.1 Some routers use this address as the default.

Ya, I saw she said hub, but I was going to roll with it.
Pink tell us your exact setup.

For example: I have a Linksys Modem attached to a Linksys Wireless Router attached to my Cisco 24 port switch.

I can see an Icon near my clock that shows I'm plugged in.. to the right of that Icon.. I see...with tiny bars.. I click it.. a windows shows up..my PC network with the name I gave the laptop..
on the connected bar.. I can see Signal strength > Excellent
Security type is >Wpa2-PSK
Radio type>802.11n
SSID : Laptop name-PC_Network
is what i'm seeing on the small window when I run my mouse over it

(Below there is something else that looks like another connection..

this I have NO idea what it is.. Might this be someone using my connection. ?

Its...Belkin Enchanced Wireless Router..N 150

I have the Router.. the Modem.. my desktop and my new Laptop connected ..
all on the electrical.. surge protector.. ? hub ?this holds all the electrical connection together.
All on my ISP...
