Why can't I install Adobe CS4 Software?

It never ends

yes I thought about Ram but I have 3.5gigs and wasn't going to buy a new machine just to have the latest flash.

I did just find out more by reading about this:

Adobe - Adobe Support Advisor

It says Adobe Support Advisor inspects the installation log file of an unsuccessful installation of Adobe CS3 or CS4 software. A tech doc link is displayed if a known issue is found.

So I downloaded and ran AdobeSupportAdvisor2_19 and guess what happened:

Insta crash blue screen auto restart BLAHHHHHHHHH! I cannot even see the error if there is one.

Another article said... "Also ensure that CS4 is fully patched"

What does that mean?

I was having a few notifications when I tried to install adobe cs4, The quote above reminded me about using Secunia PSI to patch it, you might want to try that.
PSI - Consumer - Products
I don't know if that will help you but it helped me out.

Which DVD are you using for the install?

I am trying to merely install the trial off the web download. I have the install files and they are fine, but nothing works. No DVD for me. I bet Adobe will argue that's the problem but it shouldn't be.

Have you experienced BSOD's at any other time on your current system?

Sorry to sound dumb but what's a BSOD?
If that's the blue screen thing, then no, I cannot think of any instance where I have seen it. Well, once long ago when I had XP on here it happened. Not since I installed Win7 in Dec/Jan.

BSOD = Blue screen of death. So yes, it's what you thought it was. Do you have a link to the download for the installation files? If it's an ISO image, that could be your problem. You have to burn those to disc.

no link available... files from ISO can be either burned to disk or extracted using iso utilities, which I have... but some instances of my trial of this have been from ones that was zipped or RAR'd and my latest attempt for installing Flash CS4 was by downloading the app right from Adobe.com

So i cannot imagine the issue was with the source of the installer, and when using a trial install it couldn't be any cleaner, I would think... but who knows.

Incidentally, my psi scan is done and it had 5 threats. Skype (which works fine) vlc media player (which works fine) macromedia flash player 8, which should be uninstalled anyway (that's from the older version of flash I had on here (cs3 and cs4 would not work but this computer was running flash's previous version just last week) and finally, flash player and active x version 10. These are the downloadable freebies that adobe gives everyone so they have been working fine even before I tried to install any flash. Nevertheless I will address all errors anyway.

yeah I save the install files to my CT and close everything (folders, web, etc) and try to run.

BTW now I am about to reinstall flash player 10.

Here's what I do know to make that clean and easy:

To get rid of old go here to download an uninstaller first:
How to uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control

Restart

To put in new, go here to redownload and run the newest/latest version:
Adobe - Adobe Flash Player

To test that Flash Player works, go here to run a very quick online test:
Adobe - Test Adobe Shockwave Player

Correct, but I had no way of knowing you had a utility for this. Incidentally, I use MagicISO for extracting files from ISO images. You said there's no link available? How did you download it then?

but some instances of my trial of this have been from ones that was zipped or RAR'd...
Which is why I would burn the ISO if I were you. I would imagine that would be the preferable method for installation. Just a suggestion.

indeed, and thanks. i have saved off all things needed for the app if and when an installer works... I can and will burn the isos of the ones I have in my world...
;)

although yeah, I most recently tried to just use the Adobe.com trial version of flash and got blue screen even then. I had thought it had to do with my source but that cant be it. Not unless I have some virus that my Kaspersky isnt finding. That's unlikely though. Nothing at all seems wrong with this machine and it's running as nicely as ever.

That's not always true. I've downloaded corrupt installation files plenty of times. They got corrupted for a plethora of reasons. This may not be the case with you, but don't rule it out so fast if your having serious problems with the install. Never assume anything in this type of situation.

yeah ur right, and so I am still checking my system to try to find any issues. It does turn out I had TWO instances of flash player. It's just the player but who knows if that's got to do with anything.

time to restart and pull out the things I cant get unless in safe mode

was never able to install cs4

i was never able to install trial version of flash or any of the cs4 packages. endless emails and phone calls to adobe over last year have been to no avail. they basically just tell me to erase everything and try again, which ive done repeatedly. currently i'm resorting to using trail versions of old versions of flash like cs3 and flash 10 i find on the disks in the back old flash library books. i've written several games using the old software and hope someday i can get flash cs4 to work so i can post them to a web site. maybe the next version of flash will install. i'm using a new vaio x sony laptop, plenty of memory and power. would like to buy $1000 cs4 production package but cant risk the dough when i cant even get the downloaded trial to install.

gotta try again even though this is a crock

I had an adobe tech support bloke on with me for about 45 mins. He understood my issue and had me create a new user acct and install AIR, Flash Player and then Support Advisor on there first. After these 3 ran complete, he had me download a fresh trial installer to my drive. I was about to have him be able to see my system and watch the progress bar together when he told me how to set that up when BOOM! It crashed again! blue Screen.

The place it seems to crash is 3/4 the way through, around where 'Adobe Media somethin' tries to install. When you are ready to do the flash install it wants to install a bunch of other items with it. That media app is one of them and maybe I shall try it once more WITHOUT including that. I suppose I could try to install it alone later?

Also when cleaning the system using the adobe clean tool, my programs menu in start menu still shows some start up shortcuts for some of these smaller apps that had been installed but that were removed.

I am trying to learn flash and have taken courses in CS4. I would really like to get this going and not have to wait til CS5 and its whole new set of problems comes along.

Other than reinstalling windows 7 ultimate (not in my plan) I cannot think of another thing to try. I was also told that flash player --the free download app--should have no affect on all of this, and nor do any older CS3 apps I already have like Dreamweaver, photoshop and the like. Nor should my copy of acrobat 9.2. I was also able to get into my safe mode but found nothing that looked like a problem to deal with there.

I got the advisor to work on my regularly used user acct (I like to log in as admin) and so I am going to try it there.

Firebreather, I am surprised that a new sony Vaio with mem and power is having probs with this. Yeah my adobe guy told me that maybe the download from their site was bad and to try that again... but yeah, as I said, that's a crock.

thank you all for your wishes of good luck. It may have worked...

I wrote this to Adobe just now...

I have a new update. I have been successful in installing flash cs4 BUT with errors... I have attached the screens of pre install showing what i put in and you can see I did not check off Adobe media Encoder CS4 & Adobe Media Player. I left these out and installed everything else and the program seems to work ok so far. I had noticed that one of these was what was being installed around 3/4 the way through the progress bar whenever it would crash on me and go to blue screen and restart Windows. Someone I know who works in IT said there could be some video card issue but I have no idea. I also do not know what these two sub-apps in the Flash install even do. I have also installed the final screen showing my Flash installed but with errors. I was thinking of trying to install just those now but am reluctant to do this until you tell me what to try next. Thank you.

One last suggestion. If you want the CS4 version of PhotoShop, then why not just run the extended edition? Much smaller application and it does the same thing as the regualar application. I've got it if you want it....I think.

As for the 320GB, he mentioned using boot partition software somewhere in this thread. He may have messed it up. I would do a repair install on that drive, with the 1.5 pulled, before I went pointing fingers at that drive.

Why in the world anyone would want the exact same OS on two drives in the same rig is beyond my type of logic to begin with.
