Just got my GTX 480

Does it run alright on your 9650?

I have a 9550 and had a feeling they might hold them back a bit, but how does yours run?

Nahh... the Q9650's don't hold them back at all.. my Vantage GPU score was just the same as dude running the i7 but his CPU score was a little more..

Get one.

Hey what's the length of the card? Want to make sure one would fit in my case. The GTX 260 is 11.5 and that fits alright. I think I have another inch or two to play with till it will be in the hard drive bays.

I read over the reviews and the numbers just don't add up for me, not at the 1680X1050 resolution anyway, the bigger the screen the better the improvment though. AT 1680 I doubt the game play will be any better than my single GTX 280 which easily plays Crysis at 2XAA enthusiast settings and I mean perfectly.

Gaming might look a bit prettier with the extra AA but not 500 dollars worth. I could easily beat one out with another 200 dollar GTX280. The GTX295 was another huge waste of money for anyone who purchased one. Real world results are what matters, not Vantage scores which is a synthetic benchmark and is way over rated.

The cost just doesn't make up for the slight frame rate increase and better AA for me so I'll be skipping this generation of GPU's. The GPU temps have more to do with case flow than the card itself, IMO case flow is everything when it comes to keeping these cards cool. Most people don't realize that.

I'm sure the card will serve you well and I wouldn't mind having one to play with but in the real world of gaming there won't be much of a difference at the resolution I'm running although you should see a pretty good improvment with your bigger screen and more AA.

yea my 24" uses the power.. and I ran Crysis at enthusiasts and 16xAA and that was smooth and beautiful.. thats a feat.

and yea the 280 is a good card, but the DX11 on this card is that next level that will do the job. Wait til Crysis 2 comes out, you'll "NEED" a new card. haha i think. (but maybe not since it's really optimized) afterall it will be on consoles.

16xAA is 4xAA with 12x CSAA.
16xQ is 8xAA with 8x CSAA

what i'd like to see is how well it performs with 8xSQ set in nhancer

however i've seen some fools at overclockers.net using the crysis benchmark tool in dx10 mode, who believe they were running 32xS xD not possible since Dx10 apps won't accept overrides from nvcp, unless that suddenly changed overnight(basically)

Speaking of 32xAA I'm going to be running a few Benchmarks over the next few days for that Exact site.. haha. so anything you wanna see go ahead and let me know. I just did Just Cause 2 Fully Maxxed out with everything on high, including AO.

Well, the usual's would be stalker, crysis.... both of which favour ati for some reason.

then theres Farcry 2, GTA4, Metro 2033, RE5, SFIV, Sup Com 2, NFS Shift or substitute with your own favourite racer , I still consider oblivion to be a card eater...., and if you use pcsx2 at all, its always fun to find out how high you can take the internal res before games become unplayable.

Dirt 2, HawX etc.

i doubt it'd choke on the new sam and max game lol.

so skunk they are not.. a little manual adjust of the fan speeds and they are fine. mine idles at 44c in room. (cooler than my 260's) and load around 75-80c for most games with fan speed at a quiet 70% at 70% they are quieter than my fans on my radiator

and I have Dirt2, FC2, JC2, MW2, COD4, Fear2, both Crysis Games, L4D, L4D2, GTA-IV.. all these will be benched eventually. I'll do a few tonight and post up

lol....... i knew it!!

before they were released these review sites were reporting 70c idle temps & well over 100c load out.

& then next to it they had the 5970 with an idle temp of 45c & a 95c load out... now my card has never seen over 70c OCed to 950/1275, so i knew the reported temps would be slightly bloated...

but by the looks of it, they were seriously off the mark.

& .... Nvidia's back in the game!!
