Dear Anyone

This is a common problem with Sony and Nvidia where I cannot install the driver to make the graphics card work.

I installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and have tried all the suggestions I can find to install the display driver with no luck.

I have tried modifying the installation file with the mobility modder program, changing the INF file and trying the latest driver from NVIDIA all with absolutely no luck.

Any idea at all

Thanks

Also, it can be helpful to try older drivers at times. Some systems run better on the older versions than they do the newer.

Here's a list of them all from newest to oldest:

Thankyou for all your replies.

Ive tried all your suggestions and other more "advanced ideas" using substituted inf files and modding etc etc and now its obvious, and after reading other bits and pieces about this problem, that Nvidia and Sony don't get along with each other or something and will not support their hardware.

Hopefully one day Nvidia will make one to go with windows 7 and til then ill dual boot xp onto my comp as apparently (after some more reading) the drivers are compatible with my Sony nice computer but pity you cant f*@ing watch movies on it AW235J. That has hardly any issues at all apperntly even with Bluray working and im going start installing it soon so ill know soon. Im sure ill find some issues but better than a screen that isnt quite right.

If anyone knows of a site like laptop2go that has the driver (I find it hard to believe some geeker hasnt sat down and written a driver for it) then please let me know, or even when Nvidia bring out the official one.

Otherwise any other help from anyone with a Sony AW series or specifically the AW235J would be appreciated on how to get the graphics driver for Win 7 32 bit.

Thanks

Welcome to Seven Forum I usually don't like recommending third party applications, but since you've tried just about everything else,I know some members have luck with this site. Drivers | drivers for mobile cards and laptops | laptopvideo2go.com. What you need to do is go to device manager>right click on the standard VGA adapter>then properties>details tab>drop down menu>select hardware id> enter the required portion of the id string from that into this program>select Operating system>hit filter and you should have a modified working driver. Hope this will help.Best of luck . Fabe

Hopefully one day Nvidia will make one to go with windows 7

They have and have been since before Windows 7 came out. Problem is that Sony won't or hasn't yet, released an updated driver to work the the Nvidia cards that they have used in their computers. Same thing happens with ATI laptop cards, some of the computer manufacturers are allowing the reference drivers to work with their computers, and some like Sony aren't.

I have finally installed the Nvidia driver and I think the solution was a bit more basic than I made it in the end.

All i did was reinstall windows 7, making sure I formatted the hdd first rather than just upgrading vista or anything.

Then I downloaded the file again from lap2govideo or whatever it is along with the INF file (it was strange but this time it would allow me to replace the nv_disp file and this may have had something to do also with the old system hanging around?)

Anyway do this and it let me install and I guess lap2govideo is the answer for this problem with a clean install.

Stilll noone including Nvidia support has been unable to tell me that...reinstall your windows.

Thanks for all your help.

Had you told us that at the start, I would have said to do a clean install as the upgrade method can have issues.

Of course it has, as stated in my guide, the inf needs to be replaced, if it just copies into the folder it's not going to work.

Or make sure to replace the inf in the first place. ;) I've always used LTV2G to update my Vaio without issue, so I'd bet 99% of the people who cant are doing something wrong.

At least it's working now. :)

I think I did the custom clean install the first time but only until I read someone indicating you can do a format of the drive through windows 7 did I try that and it worked fine as it disposed of vista completely.

And with the INF file I swear to god that when I was trying to replace it before it just wouldn't work UNTIL I did the fresh format. Its like it made it so that it was different file type with the little wheel on the file icon so that it was identical to the driver file.

Thats the problem, their are so many variables in getting a problematic system to run thats its all trial and error until you finally get it. All I can recommend is a fresh install as now everything works and all the trial and error went with it haha...thankgod.

Thanks for your help, but im surprised this has not been given as a solution somewhere on the net as obviously a few other people have this problem and its not that immediately obvious.

If Vista is was still on the system, you upgraded, and didn't Clean Install.

You were given the solution here, which didn't work, but then you went on to tell us you hadn't done it correctly which is why it wasn't working.
