Logging Off...

I am running windows 7 Ultimate.
explorer often crashes.
When I restart the PC it takes a long time to log off.
And also the shutdown screen is on for at least 2 to 3 minutes.

What could be causing this?

It could be any one of a number of things. The most likely is a service or background task that's not shutting down in a timely manner. I would suspect the two issues are related... so, what software are you running?

Look for something that's always on... AV software, taskbar tool, gadget, etc.

I would look at the event log, right-click on "my computer" and click "manage". Go to the event viewer and look under "windows logs", then under "application logs". see what Warnings or Errors show up. Let us know what you find.
