Hey everyone,

Just registered here because I am at my wit's end with this problem. OK.

Using a Supreme FX II riser card for an ASUS P5E motherboard. Windows 7 x64

Had XP, all drivers worked, was using SoundMAX control center. No problems with my microphone, speakers, headphones, etc. Then I did a fresh install of Windows 7. Sound worked. Everything was fine until I tried getting my microphone to work. Seems like A LOT of people are having similar problems with driver issues, hardware, etc. A lot of people can't get their mics to work on Windows 7, etc. My speakers work fine, I am using my speakers as "High Definition Audio Device" default, which I am guessing is the default for a Win 7 install. I have tried both HD-Audio and AC'97 on the sound card. It's definitely not a hardware issue. The sound card works.

Basically, my motherboard CD won't run on Windows 7, so I can't try installing the drivers off of it. I went to the ASUS website and tried downloading the newest audio drivers for the P5E. I install it and I get errors. The drivers won't load after a restart. I just get a red X in my sound tray and no audio at all. I uninstall it and get the default Windows 7 drivers back and my audio works. But no microphone. Just a Line-In in recording devices. I have scoured Google and other forums, seeing a lot of people have similar issues, but nothing that I can really work with. I have tried other versions of drivers recommended, same problem. I am pretty sure it's a driver issue because I know I didn't install any manually when I installed Windows.

Anyone have any experience with the Supreme FX II and Windows 7? Any advice or suggestions are welcome. I don't know what else to do. I hear conflicting things from other forums and people. Really looking for help here since a lot of other people are using Vista or XP. I don't see a lot of Windows 7 stuff and that is what I am running here.

I'll check it out, but I have tried a couple driver versions, including the ones right off the ASUS site that are supposed to work in Win 7, but no dice. I install and I get the red X and "Drivers could not be loaded" upon restart. No audio devices present at all. I'll try this one out though and see how it works. Thanks.

Edit: Installed it, same thing as the other ones. Red X in sound tray, 'unable to load drivers' after restart. Went into device manager, SoundMAX Integrated Audio was there but with a yellow exclamation. I tried to update the drivers through there and it just installed the Win 7 defaults. No audio devices present in playback or recording when I installed, until it reverted back. Sigh.

To be sure did you try this driver:

SoundMAX Audio Driver v6.10.x.6585 released October 21, 2009 WHQL

Be sure before you install to remove any leftovers from the old/other soundmax drivers.

Here are all the drivers from Asus:

Yes. I've tried both. They install, but then have problems loading. "Driver unable to load" upon start up. No audio output device at all. Uninstall or I update drivers from device manager and it reverts back to Win 7 default sound drivers.

To help you better could you fill out your systems specs, here's how to: http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/8-forum-rules-please-read.html

Also could you post a screen shot of the recording section in audio?

Something you also could try is to use the Windows 7 disk to perform a "repair" (select upgrade install)
Another user on this forum with sound problems solved it by doing this.

OK. I set my system specs up. Also I took some screenshots of my current recording and playback devices in my audio.

I don't understand how using Win7 to repair it would work. I thought it was a separate driver issue. I'm using the Windows 7 default drivers for audio. I just want to get my mic working, that's all really.

I'd like to get this resolved somehow with Windows or my drivers to be able to use a mic as a recording device, but would a USB microphone work since it's not plugging directly into any analog mic jacks or anything? Or do I still need a microphone as a device in my recording devices?

Sorry for the late reply but we had a power out here in Amsterdam.

I thought it was worth a try to do a repair.

Looks like it but to be sure in your bios it's set to hd-audio?

Also did you already had a look at this thread: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.-Forum- Windows 7

second page, last posts.

I never used a usb mic but in theory it should work, it uses a separate port and drivers.
