Installed KOTOR1. Setup WideScreen resolution 1680x1050, as well as fixed the HUD with the help of
WSGF Hacks. I tested the game out initially with fully updated drivers and couldn't make it through the character creation screen. I downgraded my GeForce drivers to 181.71 for 64bit Windows 7, and got better results. But after a few fights, the game crashed.
So, I downgraded further, this time installing the 178.24 driver for 64bit Windows
Vista. I restarted the game and haven't had a problem yet. Got through the first part just fine, and just started up Taris. If my game ever crashes, I'll let you know.
Other than that, if your gfx card qualifies (remember, I'm running an 8-series card), I recommend downloading and installing the 178.24 drivers for Windows Vista to get KOTOR1 up and running on your Windows 7 OS. It's really easy and very simple.
Here's the link to the drivers that I am currently personally using for KOTOR.
NVIDIA DRIVERS 178.24 WHQL
I hope this helps some of you.
Thank you, thank you, and thank you again.
This was the final thing I did to make it work. I could hug you right now, but I'll be far to busy playing KoToR in a moment.
For nVidia users, this is what I did:
First, to set affinity for only one core (Massive stability improvement, though I havent tried using all cores after downgrading drivers)
1) Downloaded imagecfg.zip:
(Simple google search)
(this is a utility for permanently setting an affinity) and:
a) Unzipped imagecfg.exe into the C:\Games\LucasArts\SWKotOR folder
b) Ran cmd (Start -> Run -> type "cmd" (without quote marks) and press Shift+Enter (to run it as an administrator!)
c) Navigated to C:\Games\LucasArts\SWKotOR (cd C:\Games\LucasArts\SWKotOR)
d) Ran: imagecfg -a 0x1 swkotor.exe
Note: More info on imagecfg.exe:
http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=187768
2) Created the new shortcut for swkotor.exe (right click on swkotor.exe and Send to -> Desktop - Create a shortcut) and renamed it to Star Wars - Knights of the Old Republic.
THEN
3) Download and install 178 version drivers from post I quoted above
4) As soon as I ran the game I found the video very shaky, and went to graphic options to disable v-sync
5) This got me through character creation easily enough, with perfect stability (DO NOT SWITCH THROUGH FACE PROFILES TOO QUICKLY this can cause it to crash)
but as soon as I got into the gameplay, the lines and shakiness were back.
Switch Anti-alliasing to 2 and Anisotropy to x2!
Haven't had any problems since, but I will post again if I do, and with a solution. Please start reading the entire thread before posting problems, so that this post won't be buried like paintonasign's.
