4 Gigabyte Tunning on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit

Hi All,

Just now I installed 2+2 = 4Gb of RAM on my system. And the system properties shows 2.96 GB Usable. I would like to use 4 Gigabyte tunning to increase this 2.96 and would like to take full advantage of the 4GB. Does 4GT option available in Windows 7?? If so can you please explain me the process of enabling it.......

You won't see the full 4GB (minus whatever memory is set aside for graphics) unless you install the 64 bit version of windows. There is no other solution

Here is a chart of memory access. With 32-bit, you will never take advantage of 4GB. Usually around 3 GB or so.

I believe it is possible, but you can kiss stability goodbye. I'm not sure why there's so much resistence, but the only real solution is to go x64. If you want to use 4 GB or more...that's the solution. Besides, it's not like it would cost you anything...so why not?

What part of "32 bit operating systems can't see more than about 3 GB RAM" don't people understand? I challenge anyone to show me a computer with a 32 bit operating system that has more than 3.2 GB of usable RAM. There may be 4GB of addressable space, but the difference is required for addins. For god's sake people, unless you actually have a computer that runs a 32 bit operating system which shows 3.3GB of usable memory or more, (in which case people would immediately line up at your door offering you money), stop telling people it can be done.

Only applications having native support for PAE will benefit this, most applications do not support PAE
This could make your system unstable, x64 seems a better choice

Technically, it can be done, in the interest of facts. Does that mean it should be done? Absolutely not. There are plenty of good reasons why Microsoft doesn't enabled PAE, support it, or recommend it, lack of stability being the primary one. Add in the fact that pretty much none of the consumer-level drivers support PAE, and you won't be left with a usable system. You might be able to boot and show that more memory is being used...but that's about all you'll be doing with the system.

As I said, it can be done, but this is yet another example (of many) that prove the age-old addage....just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should be done. I could take a swan dive off a building....but that doesn't mean I should.

There's no need to be yelling or whatnot, because we're actually in agreement. There's a very simple solution to using 4 GB of memory, and that's to run an x64 OS.

Linux uses the full amount on a 32bit system - it's only the restraints put in by Microsoft that give this issue.

This is also now true with 64bit installs and the restrictions MS have added depending on what flavour of W7 you have bought.

It's simple to me, let Windows 7 handle your ram and page filing. I know of any good way to do otherwise. If one wants the use of more ram go to 64 bit. IMHO the tweaks we did in older system don't apply in Windows 7. Do your self a favor don't use any 3 party programs to try and change what Windows 7 already does quite well.
