OK, your new drive WD5000LPVT is a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB HDD. Let us start with it.
Test your drive with the manufacturer's diagnostic/repair utility Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for DOS. Download dlgdiag_5_20.zip from
WD Support / Downloads / SATA & SAS / WD Blue / SE / SE16 (SATA II) Read the Instructions therein.
First create a bootable MSDOS pen drive using Rufus
Rufus - Create bootable USB drives the easy way
( Backup all data in the pen drive for it will all be lost while formatting it with Rufus. Plug your pen drive (remove all other external drives) and run Rufus. In the "Create a bootable disk using" select MSDOS from the dropdown arrow and click on Start. When completed close Rufus.)
Extract the contents of dlgdiag_5_20.zip directly into the newly created DOS pen drive.
Plugin your WD drive into the laptop.
Boot from the MSDOS pen drive using the one-time boot menu.
Against the command prompt C:> type dlgdiag5.exe and press Enter to run the Diagnostics.
Run the Quick Test and then the Extended Test. Let us know the results. If it fails, check the drive on another working computer as you had done earlier. ( I do not know how you did it.) If it fails there also, return rhe drive for replacement.
If it passes both the tests, then Write Zeroes to clean it up and bring it to the factory condition.
Now you may try to install Windows.
But again let us know what OS was originally installed on the laptop, and what Windows Edition you will be installing now including the source media you will be using and how you propose to activate it.
Now retiring for the day. Will see you after another 10 hours, insha Allah.
