Asteroid - dwarf planet...a rose by any other name is still a rose.

EDIT: I think they would have done just as well if that had created a category just call "Big Asteroids" rather than dwarf planets. It seems to me that this illustrates the significance...or insignificance of the "planets" they claimed to have discovered orbiting other distant starts and planets. Since they have difficulty classifying the ones in our own solar system, I doubt that they could do even as well with the distant ones, where the only evidence of them is possibly the effect on the orbit of the visible celestial body, or as I saw in one documentary, the fluctuation of the light emitted from it.

I can only assume that is in reference to Brink's warning in another thread regarding a ban on political comments. Nearly every thought that anyone has is political in some fashion, but I doubt that this is what he had in mind.

Ceres is an asteroid discovered in 1801. As far as I know, Nibiru is only the name of a planet in a game called Nibiru Age Of Secrets.

EDIT: I Googled and found that Nibiru is a name given to a theoretical planet that is thought by some to be on a collision course with Earth...AKA Wormwood.

Depending on which one, from what I recall..

Nibiru, Wormwood, Planet of the Crossing, The Destroyer are all names refering to the same thing.

I'm one that believes that Wormwood refers to an actual celestial body, but one theory that I read is interesting, because some believe that it is symbolic of a nuclear missile. The reason that seems somewhat significant is because Chernobyl translates to Wormwood, which doesn't mean that the nuclear disaster there actually was that of prophesy, but could be connected as a foreshadowing of a nuclear missile(s). The plural would have to be the case, because no single nuclear missile that now exists could create the havoc described in Scriptures.

I tend to believe it refers to a celestial body of some form myself.

The most common belifs seem to be that it is a planet or dwarf star.
When its orbit crosses into our own, its causes alot of disturbances with gravity, magnetic fields etc.
Supposedly, these disturbances will cause alot out earthquakes, tidalwaves and other global issues, which will increase in intensity as it gets closer.


It is intersting that most religions and beliefs (regardless what you call it) have many end days stories related to it, in some way. Its usually mentioned by one of its many names, at some point.

I started to reply to a post of your's that was made after the last one now in this thread, I don't know if you deleted it, or someone else did, so I won't include it in this. However, I remember seeing an episode of Nova recently, that spoke of NEOs (Near Earth Objects), which are comets, asteriods, etc., which pass near the Earth, some of which could collide with it. It spoke of one in particular, that was supposed to pass in ~2025...I think, nearer than anything like it before, but was to miss. However, depending on how it passed in relationship to something called a "keyhole", it might return a few years later, perhaps 2029, and hit.

For reasons of my own, I doubt that this will occur, but they also spoke of the fact that there is a high probability of other NEOs out there, on a collision course with Earth, that could go undetected until the very last moments. So, science and governments could not necessarily offer any protection.

I do think that even if governments of the world know right now that Dec. 2012 was all true, and some major event was going to happen, they would not tell the masses.
And if you think about it, it would cause utter chaos.

Since there would be nothing no one could do about it anyway, Im not entirely sure thats a wrong move.
Although, I think I would want to know regardless

Lets just say there was a announcement tonight that said there was going to be a xXx size object come near earth.
It would be classified as a ELE (extinction level event) and there was nothing they could possibly do to stop it.
They say it will happen in 5-6month time, and no where would be safe.

What impact would that have on your daily lives now? Would anything change?

I would ditch my normal "mild mannered personallity" and become a "Charlie Sheen Clone".

Interesting question, though the premise kind of falls flat when it has been shown often enough that there isn't anything that any government can keep secret for any period of time. Especially something as juicy as certain knowledge that the Earth is doomed.

SO the question would really be, "What if massive, corroborated, indisputable proof from scientists world wide was that an NEO was going to hit and kill most life on the planet in 6 months, what would you do?"

And that's a tough one to answer honestly. So much depends on what everyone /else/ does. And personally I don't hold out much positive thoughts for what everyone else will do

I know exactly what I would do...exactly as I am now, tapping the keyboard, and waiting for what I know will occur, and that is not the extinction of the Earth. At worst. a large percentage of it may be destroyed, and that could include myself, but if it did, I would be glad, because those that would survive would have much worse problems to deal with.

At worst. a large percentage of it may be destroyed, and that could include myself, but if it did, I would be glad, because those that would survive would have much worse problems to deal with.

There was a documentary on TV many years ago about what life would be like after a Nuclear War. It was pretty gruesome stuff. Things like there would only be enough gasoline for the following years food crop and that was if things would grow at all. Does anyone remember that. It was called "The Day After"

Totally agree --- being able to get off of this planet (and having somewhere hospitable to go) would be our only hope of survival.

Meanwhile, I would be eating all those fattening things I've been depriving myself of, not to mention indulging in other treats of various sorts!
