Using 3DS Max Design 2011 SP1 with Vray and it crashes midway the render. Need your help in solving this puzzle. Have already minimize the polygons and render settings to no luck. Attached are the specifications and also the crash details of the application. Thanks in advance.

I hate to say this but from the looks of it you are running 64 bit with 4 gigs and trying to use a huge app to render. I did the very same thing and got guess what BSOD's.

What is the size of the render file, and @ what settings? 4 gigs on 64 big isnt a lot.

has it ever worked? what has changed if it did?

Do you have a backup from before the problem started? Do you have a win 7 dvd to do a repair install?

edit: sorry I didnt see the app error below. The error is a memory exception (C0x000005) caused by 3dsmax.

I would run memtest to check the memory

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot. Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Then if it is still crashing run a system file check

Hi ZigZag. When I use pre-calculations of light cache and irradiance map it works. however when i try to increase the image size, noise threshold, light cache and irradiance map, texture settings it crashes. The scene is an interior with only 30k total polygon. Have merged the old file to a blank one to remove the settings of the previous max scene settings.

Right now am unsure what causes the problem since other forums I read said the same thing and tried the memory test and even the GPU memory test. I previously have a HP laptop which runs in winXP x64 with 4 GB in 3dsmax 2009 with vray sp1 both in x64 and works perfectly.

Hope there is a solution out there.
