Hey all,

I'm in need of help here with my 5.1 speakers. I just recently changed to a 5.1 Sonic Gear 4000 set of speakers and I believe i have plug in the jacks correctly - based on and online guide, using the Line in, Line Out and Microphone slots.

However, the issue is now there is no bass and the subwoofer is not working. Whenever i do a test of the sounds, the front, rear and center speakers work but there's no any reaction/sound from the subwoofer. Tried using I Tunes, VLC and even videos from youtube. The speakers all work except for theres no bass.

I hope someone can help me here and sort this problem.

I have read up a number of post in this forum to see if there's any related issues but cant really find the appropriate one.

The motherboard that i'm using is Asus P8B75-M LX PLUS.
And here are the rest of images on details of my pc--

Appreciate the help. Thank you.

Do you have to have speakers connected to the front jacks too?
In Connecter Settings, tick the HD Audio Front panel and check what is under the Tools button.

Some speaker have to be connected to each other as well, such as the sub to one of the side speakers. Do you have it plugged into power?

Thanks for the reply.

1. I did not connect any speakers to the front jacks. ONLY the three options at the back of the CPU.

2. In the connector settings, after choosing the HD Audio Front panel option, i tried clickin the tools button but there are no other options to choose. Nothing happens actually.

3. All 5 of the speakers are connected from the sub output. None of the speakers are connected with each other, only with the sub. And yes the power is plugged in and on.

What else, can I check on? :)

A couple things I see in your configuration, may not help your bass, but items you may want to look at.

First, you have record set to 48Khz. You should set it to 44.1Khz (CD quality). I have a recording studio and the only time (most) recording engineers use 48Khz is if they are recording audio for synchronization with Video.

Second, you have AC97 front panel jack checked. Normally HD Audio is used. HD Audio has some additional jack sensing that AC97 does not. Same way with the front panel audio connection to the motherboard, HD Audio should be used., Only use AC97 if that is all that is available.

Third you have Swap Center and Subwoofer checked. That may also be a cause of bass woofer problems.

Okay so I have made the changes.

-Changed to CD Quality.
- And Using HD Audio as previously suggested as well.
- As for the Swap Center and Subwoofer checked...i did that cuz whenever i did the speaker test, if it was time to test the sub the sound would come from the centerspeaker. But with that ticked, the center speaker works when center is check but then no sound when time for the sub to be tested. STILL, now just tried Fireberd's suggestion but no bass.

Fireberd is very good on audio issues.

I just thought of something else, are there and volume controls or switches on the sub?

I see, glad for the help from the both of you.

Okay on the Sub the controls are - Volume (I turned it full, and will control from the PC), Sub (This one i turned to about 80%) and last option is the input 2.1 or 5.1 so turned the knob towards the 5.1.

That's about it.

Was just wondering, is there something to do with my BIOS setting by any chance? Perhaps I should update it.

I'm sorry, I'm out of ideas, audio isn't my area. :(

You BIOS should be fine, you are getting some sound so that shows you have on-board audio enabled. That's the only thing that would effect it, is if it's disabled..

Did these speakers and sub work before on another system possibly? Or is this the first time you have connected them to your system? If its not the first time; I know this may not sound like what you want to hear; but it is possible they may have given up the ghost so to speak. But one last thing i can think of for you to try is to try them with another sound card; that way you can rule anything else out....

Also have a pretty bad speaker setup which is a klipsch promedia 5.1 surround speaker setup with huge subwoofer and lg blu ray player/writer. Also a hp officejet pro 8600 plus wireless all in one and a logitech s7500 webcam.
Yep, it worked fine on another PC previously. I did pack it up due to moving and after some time, only now, using it for my current PC. Hmmm, hope its not the case that its damaged.

Small update.

I turned on the volume full and when i did the speakers test on the Realtek HD Audio Manager menu, when it came to the subs turn, i could hear a vooom sound and the ring in the front right speaker but very very soft.

Does that point out to anything?

To me it does sound like a bad speaker(s) or faulty jack or connector.
Do they work on another PC now, after the move?
