Because you have 2GB of RAM and are running x64 windows ;)

Post a snip of resource monitor on the RAM tab, and we can break it down for you.

Win 7 64 will use about 800Mb to 1500MB at normal settings mine is 1529Mb at the moment and will drop to 1100Mb at idle. 64 bit works best with 4Gig of RAM but for normal use you should be fine with 2Gig. Win 7 uses memory differently than XP.

No Windows 7 uses Ram differently. Forget your old XP thinking. Your games will run as fast or faster with 7.

Hey you guys,
I recently installed Windows 7 on a computer that only has 512 MB of RAM.
On idle it's using 60% of it's memory resources.

Am just wondering if it am just better off with Windows XP or just sticking with Windows 7.
I want to stick with Windows 7 but 60% on idle seems wayy to much for me.

at least 1 GB for better performance.
On my netbook which is have 1 GB of ram , it also reach 60% on idle.

Windows XP doesn't use RAM as efficiently as Windows 7, so NO. You just need more RAM.

Well that's the thing.
I haven't even upgraded my main computer.
My main computer has 1GB and it runs Windows 7 perfectly.
I don't really want to go out and buy more parts.

If you post a screen capture of processes in Task manager we could see the CPU usage allocations of each running program and it would be very clear which one(s) are causing 60% CPU usage at idol.

It could be something surprisingly simple. I once ran across a computer with 97% CPU usage at idol and Task Manager showed that it was a Java program and using Auto Runs it was easy to locate the program and prevent it from starting again.
