64 Bit issues

Yeah that's what I'll have to do. Can't install anything so Spybot is out.

I was going through Event viewer again and something caught my eye. In the system logs there are a bunch of instances of

\SystemRoot\SysWow64\drivers\libusb0.sys has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system. Please contact your software vendor for a compatible version of the driver. (Event ID: 1060, Source: Application Popup)

Is this part of the issue? It almost seems as though it's frequent enough to be the log that is being recorded every time I try and run something. It coincides a warning event (ID:219, Source: Kernal PnP)

Oh, and for fun I've also lost the auto scroll on my mousepad. Gliding my finger down the side just drags the mouse, not the page.

libusb0.sys has been blocked from loading due to incompatibility with this system.
Disconnect any usb devices and see if it changes anything.
But really, it sounds like you're in for a reinstall. After backing up data, wipe the disk (Partition Wizard boot disk if you have it or can get it, or see http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/52129-disk-clean-clean-all-diskpart-command.html?ltr=D) and you'll be sure to clean out even the worst malware, then reinstall.

Please do NOT attempt to run ComboFix without professional guidance from a trained malware fighter : this is hardcore software that will easily render your system useless if you do not know what you are doing. HaHa yes i am trained malware fighter so he was in good hands...
it seems to me that there is some processes that is locking the system.....
there are some new little nasties on the seance that are overpowering the most hardcore of removal tools
I would be interested in the task manger list to see if i could pinpoint the process that is causing the issue!

  • If you cannot connect to the Internet with the infected computer in Normal Mode, please restart in Safe Mode with Networking. To do this, turn your computer off and then back on and immediately when you see anything on the screen, start tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, select Safe Mode with Networking and press Enter on your keyboard. Windows will now boot into safe mode with networking and prompt you to login as a user.
  • In the event the infection prevents you to download files on the infected computer, you will need to download the files on another computer and then transfer them to the infected computer via a CD/DVD, external drive, or USB flash drive.
Please download rkill from one of the following links and save to your Desktop:

One, Two,Three or Four

  • Double-click rkill to run.
  • A command window will open then disappear upon completion, this is normal.
  • Please leave rkill on the Desktop until otherwise advised.
  • Do NOT restart your computer after running rkill as the malware program(s) will start again.
Note: If you you receive security warnings about rkill, please ignore and allow the download to continue.

Now proceed with installing MBAM:


  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.

Im not going to turn this to an argument/debate...
Everyone has their own ways, experiences, tools and methods.
However IMO Cobofix is a primitive but helpful tool that i feel does not pose the high risk they make out and i was sure that if it ran and the fact that i gave a link to the instructions it would cure the problem immediately with minimal of effort
Unfortunatly his problem seem to disallow him to install / uninstall and properly run scans & logs ect ect
However you seem to now have this thread in hand so ill step back and watch your method in anticipation to a fix

I'm leaning toward a Malware problem. The fact that the system will not let you install anything is a favorite tactic of these type of programs to protect themselves from removal. If you in fact did download the program Malwarebytes to your desktop but can't install it, try this -- rename the install file extension from"exe" to "com". Then try to install. If you do get it installed, before it will run you may also have to rename the extension from mbam.exe to mbam.com.

This may not be you problem but I have used this tactic many, many times to clean infections from customers systems.

Bit of a bump, but still having problems. Apparently this laptop doesn't have a Windows 7 disc. I've got the Driver disc. But spent the better part of the last week turning this place upside down and found nothing Windows 7 related. Looked it up and I guess they don't ship those with computers anymore? So stupid question: How am I supposed to reinstall it? It's less then a year old so i don't know if I can sucker Dell into giving me a disc because of the warranty or what. The "Reinstall Windows" option under Advanced Recovery Methods ays it requires a disc.

Finally figured out from your last post the computer in question is a Dell Laptop.
Just a heads up - manufacturers no longer ship their systems with CD/DVD's for reloading the system. However, they do supply two (2) methods to do a system recovery.
1) Usually at the first screen, before Windows attempts to load, there should be a "F" Key option to get into Reinstall options. The system can then be reinstalled from the hidden recovery partition. Which "F" ? - read your manual.
2) One of the system recovery programs that is shipped with your Dell System allows you to create a set of Recovery DVD's. Usually takes 3/4 DVD's per set. Since I have no system specs on your particular system, again read the manual.

This is the very first thing that should be done when buying a new system. I do not know why the manufacturers don't go to greater lengths to warn the new customer about the importance of this first step.

Okay, Ran the recovery and restored to factory. However when I now start it up, it crashes at the windows screen, restarts and enters startup repair. But the repair tool says it can't fix the problem. Do I need to use the Driver CD first? Or is something wrong?

When you said "Ran the recovery and restored to factory" how exactly did you do this? Did you get to the restore option by using the "F" key at bootup, before Windows starts to load? This is important - please get back.

Yeah, I went in through F prior to windows loading. Regardless I finally bit the bullet and called Dell. Something was corrupted. Took an hour on the phone but the problem's been fixed.
