This morning my PC failed to boot after a re-start. Repair/Restore did not work.

I set Bios to boot from CD-Rom and inserted original Win 7 disk. Booted fine and everything looks as if noting happened. Performed Scandisk, Diags, Created an Image, defrag HDD(But it was not needed).

Removed disk, changed BIOS to boot form HDD and No Joy!

Set Bios to Boot from Disk vs, HDD and here I am asking for assistance after a successful boot.

What should I try to Check/Repair/Fix on the HDD so it boots again?

What is the exact error message you get when trying to boot from the HDD? Please follow the suggestions in this tutorial to troubleshoot a non-booting PC:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219533-troubleshooting-windows-7-failure-boot.html

Post back with specific error messages and the steps you tried.

Regards,
Golden

I got a window saying to select an OS for repair but none was listed. Tried the repair option but it said it was unable to repair (Tried several times).

Using my original CDROM tried the repair option again but failed also.

Then I decided to re-install Windows7. When I started the PC the system completed a full re-boot. Removed the disk, tried to boot again from the HDD but received the same window described before. Inserted the CDROM, started the CPU and the system rebooted.

Printed the recommended tutorial. Will shutdown and follow the procedure. When I'am back up again I'll post the results.

Thanks for the reply.

Start with steps in tutorial to assure Active partition and then run Startup Repair 3 separate times with reboots until it starts - and no matter what it reports. This will normally repair HDD not booting unless disk is in drive.

If not try the bootrec commands given.

Otherewise you'll need to start at top because infection cannot be ruled out.

Followed tutorial as recommended. Fixed problem for two boot sessions, then system failed again.

Bootrec also found problem and fixed. Next morning, problem was back.

Message saying unable to boot; insert a boot disk.

Last update;
Well turned out that the Western Digital HDD was failing. Windows Event Log had been reporting for a long time a "Disk0 Bad Sector" message. I just never looked in the event log. So I did myself a favor and bought an OCZ SSD. Replaced the HDD and I am back operational.

Thanks to all of you who replied with suggestions. Learned things I never knew could be done using these suggestions. Unfortunately, other than formatting the HDD, there was not much else to be done. Since this is was my third bad Western Digital hard disk failure in several years, I bought the SDD. So goodbye WD! My other two drives, (both Samsung) have outlived the WD's.

Thanks to all who assisted me.
