Abnormal Shut downs and Uncommanded Restarts

I just purchased a new HP Pavilion laptop DV4-2164US last week. The only thing I've done to it so far is activate Norton AV and download/install Office. For some reason, most times when I close the lid with Windows running, when I re-open the lid I get the abnormal shutdown screen, asking me whether I want to start Windows normally, in safe mode, etc. Also, on a couple occasions I've noticed that, after putting the lid down with Windows 7 running, I'll pass the PC later and it has turned itself on, or is cycling on/off, and when I open the lid, the screen is black. I have to hold the power button down a few seconds to get it to shut off. I then power it back on and get the abnormal shutdown screen. I've turned off every automatic update feature I could find, to no avail. Anyone else seeing this?

what is your current power scheme ?

I have the HP DEFAULT:

Dim the display: Never for both battery and plugged in
Turn off the display: 5 min on battery, 15 min plugged in
Put the computer to sleep: 15 min on batter, 30 min plugged in
Brightness set to 1/2 intensity on battery, full plugged in
Lid close action: sleep
Power and sleep button actions: sleep
Critical battery action: hibernate
Low battery level: 12%
Critical battery level: 7%
Low battery notification: on
Low battery action: do nothing
Reserve battery level: 9%
Hard disk - turn off after 3 min on battery, 15 min plugged in
Wireless adapter settings - power saving mode: medium power savings on battery, maximum performance plugged in
Sleep - sleep after 15 min on battery, 30 min plugged in
allow hybrid sleep: off
Hibernate after: 1080 min
Allow wake timers: disable
Intel(R) graphics power plan: balanced
PCI Express - Link State Power Management: maximum power savings on battery, moderate power savings plugged in
Multimedia settings - when sharing media: allow computer to sleep on battery, prevent idling to sleep plugged in
- when playing video: balanced on battery, optimize video quality plugged in

I think that's everything. I did have a One Click fix window from Norton AV pop up yesterday. I kinda wonder if that wasn't giving me issues, but I can't see why that would have half-way brought the PC out of sleep. Just not sure....

As a new kind of twist, a couple times yesterday when I opened the laptop from sleep mode, it acted like it started, then stopped, then started, then stopped. It kept repeating this until I held the power button a few seconds. After that, I was able to power it up without an issue.

I'd appreciate any advice you folks might have.

Was there any resolution to this problem? Mine is doing the same thing. Mine awakes from sleep and it will continue this re-starting until it's manually turned off. It comes out of sleep mode between about 530am and 700am (by itself) and starts this behavior.

As a follow-up to my post above (from last month).... I went through a lot of e-mails back and forth with HP. It was under warranty, so they had me send it back to them. They replaced the system board (and the keyboard, for some reason). The entire process took about a week after I received the pre-paid return box from them. It's been about a week and it's working OK, but sometimes it would go 2 weeks before it did this re-starting thing.
