Administrator account issues

Hi everyone. I have a Thinkpad that I have through a laptop program at my school. I recently had them re-image it with Windows 7 for free. Now I'm having issues because my account is not an administrator account and it is the only account on the computer. So now whenever I try to install any programs I get asked to enter an admin password and whenever I swipe my fingerprint or enter my password all it says is "This task requires elevation". And I cant run elevated command prompt to install the admin account that comes default with windows because it gives me the same screen asking for an admin password. What can I do? I cant access the user account control either.

Can your school IT give you those rights? I'd ask them to allow you to be an admin.

They don't have a clue what they're doing, any software issues and they'll just re image the computer. That's about all they can do.

Always get prompted, saying requested operation requires elevation.

If the laptops is yours and you can boot to CD or USB stick, try this link:

http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/

Basically, it is a Linux based password recovery for Windows platform. You can blank out the administrator password, or set it whatever you'd want to.

I'll be interested to know if that works. It'd be good if it does.

It does, that's how I've got into my laptop's admin account...

The program is useless if the drive is encrypted, obviously....

I don't understand how to use that, I download the file, then copy it to a cd and put it in before I boot off it?

Use the CD image (ISO) download and burn the image to a CD. You'll need to change the boot order in the BIOS, if the boot order specifies the hard drive as the first booting device; change it to the CD in that case. It is a lot easier to use it, if you read the manual at link posted earlier...

Yes that little administrator password remover will make you smile again...
It will since he has physical access to the laptop. One can protect against the password remover, even with physical access to the laptop, by encrypting the hard drive. Short of that, one could also set hard drive password that the Linux boot disk cannot bypass either.
