Not sure if this is the correct section as Windows updates might not be the cause.

I installed the latest batch of updates for Win 7 64-bit. Not sure of the date they was released atm.

I let them install then straight away rebooted. But after boot the 'Starting Windows' screen doesnt appear and shows a few blue dots at the top left during the boot process.

It booted normal afterwards but i straight away rebooted, F8, Repair my computer and went to restore the system back to before the updates. Only to fail with an error code. So i tried restore further two weeks before and same error code.

I boot up after only to find my Norton anti virus is pretty much been uninstalled by its self.

Any ideas?

Ive ran scans too only to find nothing. Ran Norton Liveupdate and it restored my anti-virus.

I had exactly the same issue on Windows 8 x64:

Installed the latest batch of updates & rebooted.
PC simply wouldn't get past a "please wait" screen.Rebooted and attempted repair etc to no avail. Switched of pc went to bed.

Next day ,switched on and it went straight into windows, however i couldn't click on anything, or rather i could but nothing would happen. My antivirus program ESET also magically disappeared and i couldn't reactivate/relaunch it.

Eventually formatted, reloaded and disabled updates, smooth sailing ever since.

Yours seems slightly different but still seems to be caused by the updates.

My PC seems to work fine however the Starting Windows screen is blank now. Ive tried using System restore on normal boot too still no use.

Error code when trying to restore back to a other point in time is 0x8000ffff.

I've checked google and Microsoft appear to have a fix that solves 'can' solve this.

First of all though, i need to downlaod a 1.7GB file.....

Its going to take along time for me.
