What on earth is this?
I have a small circle on my desktop that appeared yesterday. I can click on it and it gets a drop shadow. I can mouse over it and the cursor turns to a double ended arrow (but I can't enlarge it). I can't move it. I can't right click it. I can't figure out where it came from. Weird. I've never seen anything like it. Can anyone help?

it looks like a disc, have you a burning software newly installed or something similar.

a virtual disc mounted with some software, perhaps.

edit, also try this, eject your disc tray and if you have a disc in it remove it and close the tray.
see if the circle disappears, if it does insert the disc and see if it shows again

and click on the hidden icons to see if there is a similar icon there, if so click it or right click it to see what it is.

i had a google and the only thing i could find was this thread here,
unfortunately there isnt a solve, but its the same issue.

Not sure Ztruker, haven't tried that, but I realised last night it has something to do with the Show Desktop icon (for want of a better description - rectangle in the corner might be closer ;)). When I had nothing open and I clicked the Show Desktop thingy in the System Bar, the circle would appear and disappear. Today it seems to have vanished. Certainly nothing to do with cd burning software...

Open up your Task Manager and go to Processes and look around and see if you find anything strange.

when you click the show desktop button it hides running applications , the circle has nothing to do with the show desktop button , it does mean its something that is running , as said in the post above, trawl through the processes and see if you can narrow it down, maybe expand the task manager so you can see the description column clearly.

Did you ever see this little circle again? Find out any more information about it?

I noticed it for the first time today, it didn't hang around on my desktop, was just there for a short while after login. Your thread was the first reference that I have found regarding it.

It's a curious little thing.

to lose that strange looking circle w arrow

Took me too long to register so I forgot the name of the file, but I had the same circle looking icon on my desktop, and at first it made my cursor act goofy. No normal pointer, but a circle with a arrow in it, and it wouldn't quite lineup with what you were pointing at. I followed the advice from above and went through task manager deleting anything that looked strange, it is hard to hurt your system like that, anything important and the OS says, get outta here, access denied, no you can't stop that process. Mouse suite 98 I think it was named.

It was the Daemon Tools process that made it appear for me. It disappeared after I ended it's process.

Circle in the middle of screen

Hi, had exactly the same circle in the middle of my screen. After reading your posts I uninstalled the Daemon Tool and circle has gone. Thanks. :)
