Am wondering what system means

I was I should say doing a clean all on a spare drive ready to use it and I inadvertently cut the power the power to that machine

Now a) does that mean I have irreparably wrecked that drive b) have to do it all over again (don't mind that) c) when I Googled to see if I have done something rather nasty to the drive I came across the command "detail disk" from a fascinating Microsoft reference to a description of the diskpart command line .

Now as most know I am not the sharpest knife in the drawer when to comes to anything much let alone the nitty gritty of the software system, and tried this on another machine and it comes up with this and I ma just curious as what "system" means. The boot part is all too obvious to me I just need to know those two things please.

As far as I know "System disc" means it's bootable.

If you go into Disk Management you will find out that is System reserve. It is created when you install windows.

System Reserved holds the bootmanger......without it, the system will not boot.

"system" means that partition is ACTIVE and that it booted from that partition. It has the bootmanager and bootmenu.

"boot" means that partition holds the current running system

"diskpart clean all" overrides all sectors on physical disk with zeros. So no data recovery is possible whatsoever. Takes hours to complete.

"diskpart clean" overrides first megebayte of physical harddisk with zeros. Partition table is there so no partition is defined afterwards. Very fast.

Thanks to all I always thought the boot was located in the larger partition - will redo the drive tomorrow when I get home and before bed
