No offence, Ryan, but you have been heard saying how the AMD CPUs fare against the i7's. I'm not paying anything until I see some reliable real world performance from reliable sources. Even then, different than you guys, no matter how good they are, it's going to have to be pretty spectacular for me to pay $600 for a graphics card.

I wasn't saying that they're going to be the card that AMD reckon it's going to be or for people to go and buy it as i think it's ludicrus expecting people to buy on rumour's. I simply quoted what was said by someone who has the cards.
As for me saying that AMD cpu's fair against I7's. I've said that the 8350 is on par with some Intel cpu's in some things and better in some but i've never said that they're better and i know that Intel are way ahead of AMD where cpu's are concerned.

I think you misunderstood me Steve..... I wasn't saying that I didn't understand what was being mistaken, I was simply stating that it could be easy to misunderstand what might have been misunderstood.

Anyway I am glad we got that cleared up, I would hate for there to be any misunderstanding.

So my 7970's are on par with the 280's then the 290x must be equal to a 7990 or a little faster on it's own

Yeah pre orders I would drop my jaw if AMD did all this and the price is 50 dollars higher then a 280 then I would probably throw caution to the wind and hook one up

At last week's GPU14 Tech Day event in Hawaii, AMD revealed a new flagship graphics card: the Radeon R9 290X. With over six billion transistors on the GPU die, 4 GB of memory with 300 GB/s of bandwidth, and 5 TFLOPS of computing performance, the card is certainly going to be AMD's best performer and a true single-GPU competitior to the Nvidia GeForce GTX Titan.

AMD didn't reveal a release date or a price for the graphics card at the event, but recently pre-orders have started at a range of online retaliers for the R9 290X. Newegg lists the MSI, Sapphire and XFX branded reference cards with a price listed of 'Coming Soon', but some quick digging into the HTML source code reveals the card's price as $729.99 excluding tax. With Newegg taking a small slice, it's likely AMD has set the MSRP at $699.

OverclockersUK are offering a pre-order deposit of £99 to secure a Radeon R9 290X Battlefield 4 Edition, an SKU that AMD announced at the GPU14 event but again failed to price or date. Although the site doesn't list a final price for the card, they estimate they'll deliver their "several hundred units" on October 31st. Centrecom Australia is offering a similar pre-order system, where prospective buyers can put down $200 to be the first in line.

Leaked specifications for the card indicate it features 2816 stream processors, 176 TMUs, 44 ROPs, a base clock of 800 MHz with a turbo clock of 1000 MHz, 4 GB of GDDR5 memory on a 512-bit bus with a clock of 1250 MHz, and an 8+6 pin power port which we already revealed through pictures of the card. Like a number of other R9 and R7 series cards, the R9 290X will support DirectX 11.2, OpenGL 4.3, 'Mantle', and TrueAudio.

Expect AMD to officially reveal the details surrounding this card in the coming weeks, and of course, look our for our reviews on all of the new R9 and R7 series GPUs.

TechPowerUp has been doing some digging on Newegg and discovered the price of the AMD R9 290X reference style GPU. Pictured above, the reference MSI branded AMD Radeon R9 290X is selling for $729.99 and for a limited period includes Battlefield 4. The inclusion of Battlefield 4 with the card suggests that this could be the more expensive Battlefield 4 SKU though it should just be the normal SKU that has Battlefield 4 as part of the new Never Settle Bundle that includes Battlefield. It is likely to just be the normal SKU because as TechPowerUp’s Btarunr states:

“FAQ #1: But it says “Battlefield 4 included,” so this must be the costlier BF4 Edition?
Ans: No. BF4 Edition is a different SKU, which includes BF4 Premium key. BF4 (standard edition) is set to be already part of a Never Settle bundle that R9 290 series owners will be eligible for.”

Based on Newegg’s pricing the AMD R9 290X is expected to have an MSRP of $699.99 which converts to £433/€513. By the time you’ve added on the standard European/UK 20% VAT rates for most countries you’re looking at £520/€615 for the MSRP including VAT and then you have to add the retailer and distributor margin so I’d expect customers to see the AMD R9 290X start from £540/€650 give or take around 5%.

It is basically my card/old card running 20MHz faster.

Edit: And lucky I sold my card just before they were released, I got £225 for mine and the new updated 280X is only £25 more brand new.

Yeah I got lucky there. The interesting thing today, the 7970 and the R9-280X are the same price right now brand new. I think they need to drop the prices of the 7970 a bit more if they want to clear the stock.

Roll on the 15th for me, lets hope the 290X turns out to be a goodun, and lets hope I manage to order one ok lol.
