Solved Amd hd8000

Here is something quoted from the review I posted earlier which explains why the card takes so long to cool down. Also AMD say the card is fine for 95C

The high power draw may also have something to do with the card's high temperature, as these are also the highest we've yet seen. However, this does come with the caveat that the card deliberately targets the 95°C mark by default, hence the delta T results of around 70°C once you've accounted for the ambient temperature. As for the idle readings, we typically take these after the load ones after a period of 5 minutes or so of inactivity. The card's fan profile is such that it typically drops very quickly to its lowest point of 20 percent speed once load is removed. The 95°C target means the card has no motivation to cool down any quicker than this, so temperatures fell more slowly than we're used to seeing.

I wouldn't expect them to say any different. Really, what else can they say? Personally, I don't know of any component in a PC that can run at 95C for extended periods of time and hold up. The hottest component in a PC is normally the CPU; and I would not run mine at 95C for an extended period of time. If I did, I would expect degradation.

I agree, but AMD themselves have said that is safe, either It's true or they are going to have a lot of gpus to replace in the coming months.

I'm with you Ryan. I really am not very concerned with what it looks like, as much as I care about the performance. Why he goes on and on about looks is beyond me. And, the temps, he obviously does not know how to set a custom fan profile. I'm willing to bet you did that for your cards. I know I did it for mine. The afterburner he was using is quite capable of doing just that.

I think he just went on about the looks because Nvidia had done such a nice job with the Titan/7 series cards. Comparing the 2 makers cards by looks in that price bracket the AMD card looks terrible but eventually 3rd party manufacturers will get their hands on them and release some really nice looking cards. So why they would delay the 3rd party sales is beyond me as you'd think they would want as many cards out the door as possible. Do you remember the XFX 290x that was posted somewhere? That was a really nice looking card.
As for custom fan profiles, That's a sore subject for me lol as i have to max my fans out to play bf3  I thinkn using Afterburner is a necessity with any gpu now as the manufacturers seem to j ust set the fan profile as quiet as poss whether it keeps the cards cool or not.

I agree, but AMD themselves have said that is safe, either It's true or they are going to have a lot of gpus to replace in the coming months.

Yeah the cards will have to be safe at that temp for them to say it but think of the heat that will be going into your case from none reference card's if they can't tame them.
I've always gone for AMD and never had any problems so really hope those cards do well but at the moment it's not looking too good is it.

Edit: The Tech Spot review is up but i've not read it yet. AMD Radeon R9 290X Review - TechSpot

Edit2: Tom just posted another vid to clarify his thoughts on the card as he's got requests on facebook.

I don't think it can be done Steve reading the review Paul left it says it hits 95 c on default and the overclocking and the whole CCC has changed :(

There are cheaper ways to heat my cabin. For that reason I am out.

I will be going with the green team this time.

Shame, AMD almost got it right. But Shame on them for all the waiting they made us do for info.

I was looking into 780ti if I could Sli those I would be sitting pretty

If I do go with some new toys I will going the same route and put the 7970's in the bed with the 8350

even if I could sell these guys I would get a little over 500,00 for both :(

I didn't do too bad selling mine, I got £225/$364 for it, but that was just before the 280X was released so I got lucky.

I am getting bored of playing the waiting game now, I just finished waiting for weeks for the 290X and now it will be a few more weeks of waiting for the 780ti. :(

right now I think I am good maybe when the year turns I will pick up the new offerings but for now I am getting the same as with the brand new so I mean honestly you should of kept your card longer

I disagree, if I had kept my card for even 1 week longer I would have lost another £50/$80+. I can live with the Integrated graphics a while longer knowing that I have more towards my new card.

I am not talking about the money stand point I am talking performance wise our cards perform like a 280x

not much bang has come from the 290x which is the same as my 2x in x-fire

now as it seems the 780ti is mad attractive I can see myself hanging on a bit longer as I am not loosing anything at best they get 20 % increase which is good but I can't tell atm unless I was really struggling know what I mean ?

If the heat had not been such an issue I would have gone for 1, here is a shot of a single 290X OC'ed to 1200MHz in 3DMark 11

It's a shame, maybe when the non reference cards come out and the cooling is under control they will be a great card.

I can say the guy on OCN was right about the design AMD need to make it a better design for cooling I mean I don't know why they keep doing this they need to say lets make a mandatory 2 fan reference design or something

most of my cards are reference except one and they all look the same :(

Paul, I never read them nor paid a whole lot of attention, for obvious reasons, but there are several guides about turning the AIO coolers into GPU coolers. I believe there is one someplace on OCN. I seem to recall one even adding a CPU block to the GPU cooler. Also, the Swiftech H2O was made so you can do that or that and add another rad to it.

Nice Ryan!

I sent this link to Steve earlier, I am not sure what to make of it really. I was also reading some of the user comments on OCN, one guy bought a 290X, hated it at first, but after using it for the weekend is very happy with it, he also owns a GTX 780 and given the choice he says he would recommend the 290X to friends over the 780.
