Solved animated gifs and windows photo viewer

Yeah, but that is another program, not windows photo viewer.
I corrected the compatibility of rundll32.exe to vista.
I was searching for the folder in the program folder , not in the windows folder.

That said, my problem of the gifs playing at half speed is still there.
my OS is a 64-bit system, is that a problem?

It is also stated above that you need to run the file (rundll32.exe) @ c:/windows/gif in compatibility mode for windows vista or xp. I hope this helps for you. I had the same error.

Which is why I re-wrote goofwares installer. It uses C:\ instead of %systemroot% which can cause errors depending on how your system is configured. This means if somthing changes in your system, like if windows in installed to a different drive or drive lettering changes, it breaks the connection and it fails. It also uses a modified version of the DLL which I don't really trust, but that's a side note

If you like window's XP's "photo and fax viewer" and goof's installer doesn't work for you, give this one a try. Safe, uses the origional DLL, just run once and you're done. Run again to uninstal.

Also the source code, for anyone who wants to learn a bit about registry

Here you go Gary

When I right click on an image & open with "Windows Photo & Fax Viewer" I get this message:
jb0fH1LOxqtciw.jpg

I installed it & then uninstalled it & then installed it again. What am I doing wrong? what do I need to delete or re-download?
I also tried goofwear's method, it also won't work.

That's very interesting. Can you double check that the compatibility settings are correct? go to "%SystemRoot%\gif" and right click -> properties on the rundll.exe, screenshot the compatibility tab.

The only one I got to work is GifView Doc posted in his post #120. I set it as the default for gifs so double clicking one opens it in GifView in another window, which is how one would do it to open in w7's Picture Viewer.

Corgano, yours I tried and it did nothing at all, not even an error.

copy the rundll form windows into the windows\gif folder, right click, properties, compatibility, windowx xp, ok

The installer should do this for you with 'FileInstall("rundll32.exe",$path&"\rundll32.exe",1)'

Actually, I thought I changed that to 'Filecopy("%windir%\rundll32.exe",$path&"\rundll32.exe",1)' so it would just copy it. Anyways, copying it into the windows\gif folder and changing the compatibility should work. Let me know

Thanks for the re-write of the original coder's program. But is there a reason as to why an animated gif that plays at normal speed in IE is slow in his/your programs, in regular or slideshow view mode?

So I've got this installed and running great (thanks a ton!), but had a question:

Gifs are now animated, but only if I tell Windows to open it with "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer", not "Windows Photo Viewer". No problem, I just made that the default program. However, my end goal is to have one photo viewer for common image types (jpeg, png, etc.) and I can't seem to assign "Windows Picture and Fax Viewer" as the default program for non-gif images. If I choose "open with" on a jpeg or png, Picture and Fax Viewer isn't an option, only Photo Viewer.

Any ideas?

Thanks again!
