Hey fellas,

So i decided to upgrade from XP pro 32bit to Windows 7 Ultimate x64 a few days ago.
Thats when my troubles began. Did everything by the book, clean install , install motheboard/vga drivers properlly.

Thing is i got that little devilish x on the speaker down right corner and since then i've looked over 500 solutions over the web forums including many bios changes like enabling and disabling the onboard HD audio and bios update also tried to install several audio drivers of my motherboards onboard sound chip like from other software or 32bit softwares.

Nothing worked and its all due to my system can't recognise the audio chip since im always getting "We can't find HD audio device" when i try to install the drivers.

In device manager i can only spot one option that might be the sound card and it goes by the name "High Definition Audio Controller". I've tried disabling it but nothing. When i try to uninstall it windows 7 automaticlly installs it back.

The motherboard is an ASRock P43DE with the VIA VT1708S audio chipset.
(i've checked on my motherboard and i noticed 2 chips near the audio panel. one saying VT1708S and another saying Realtek. But the Realtek chip might be of the LAN controler not sure about that)

In playback devices and recording deviced i get no option, complete black space.
So i am starting to get desperate after a few days of trying to solve this out because i was really excited about trying out my new software.

PS: Tried reinstalling windows but that didnt help.

Can you extract the audio file driver mentioned in the link above? Then go the the audio controller. Update driver, and select the folder you extracted the driver to.

Yeah i've tried that many times. with the drivers of the link you mentioned and many other type of drivers like vista 64x drivers or even windows 7 x86 drivers.
I always get the "We can't find HD audio device" as i said.
When i run msinfo32 i cant see anythin at the audio tab also.

Panosb:

This may be too obvious but have you checked BIOS to make sure your onboard audio controller is enabled?
I don't know about others, but I always seem to forget the basics.

If installing the audio driver from the asrock site didn't work, try reinstalling windows and adding the inf file from a flash drive in the load drivers option. It's likely that enough components were misidentified during the windows install that it really can't find your audio chip

Tried that aswell now. Still nothing .

Gonna try XP pro again just to be sure its not a hardware issue.
Im not ment to be with win7 it seems ;<

Not ideal, but you could buy an inexpensive sound card that is win 7 64-bit compatible.

Chances are it's not a hardware problem. Some hardware will not work in windows 7.. especially 64bit windows 7 ..regardless of how well it works in previous versions of windows.

Yeah but P43DE is Windows7 ready as it says in the site.
Dont know what to make of that.

When i google "No Audio Output Device is Installed" i get many results.
And that is disconcerning to be honest...shouldn't they release a service pack
allready ? I mean there are obviously compatibility issues for many sound chipsets or bios
versions or whatever.

Windows 7 SP1 will come out in 2011. There is a beta SP, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Here's a thought.. try the sound driver for the P43DE3.. it wouldn't be the first time I've seen a vendor change a few components before creating a new model#

Unfortunatelly it didn't work.
They have the same size by the way so i think they are the same drivers as it is the same chipset or someting.
