Kurlo (a brilliant small address-contact app) uses java RE and I am having great difficulty getting it to run. My system tells me I have the latest java but Kurlo says I don't. Anyone else tried to install and use this app?

I am having trouble with Kurlo as well. I got it to run and also load a ubf file. But it doesn't seem to save itself. When I turn it back on again, I have to start as a new user and reload the ubf file.

Are you on Windows 7

...and did you have trouble loading it initially or did it work first time?

Yes actually. I had no problem such as you described. No problem with Java. I just bought the computer and it did a bunch of updates. I think Java was one. And Kurlo installed fine. Did you download a fresh install program? What OS are you using. I've had it working on XP, Vista and now W7.

In any case, I managed to work around my problem. The ubf thing didn't work so I copied the pack files from my source computer straight into the classes folder (if I remember correctly).

Kurlo is a great program. Too bad the person who made it doesn't seem to have done anything else with it.

working with Kurlo

Phew! If Kurlo hadn't been such a great program, I wouldn't have tried so hard! Anyway, thanks Negligent - you inspired me to keep going and I know have got Kurlo working after installing a missing MSVCR71.dll that it told me was causing the problem.

Now I have YOUR initial problem of having to recreate the user each time it loads and to load the .ubf file each time - a real pain.
Can you just tell me when you said "The ubf thing didn't work so I copied the pack files from my source computer straight into the classes folder (if I remember correctly)"... what are the pack files? Where can I find them?

Many thanks for your help - I'm so delighted to have kurlo back. There is no other program that does what it does, and so simply.

I'm glad you got the program installed. The rest is easy.

How do I transfer Kurlo from my old computer to my new computer?

On your old computer:
Exit Kurlo if it is currently running.
Go to the directory you installed Kurlo, C:\Program Files\Kurlo by default
Go to the "classes" directory.
Copy the 4-6 files that start with "pack".

On your new computer:
Download and install the latest Kurlo release.
Go to the directory you installed Kurlo.
Go to the "classes" directory.
Paste the "pack" files (previously copied from you old computer) here. If you are asked if you want to replace the existing file select "YES to All".

This worked for me.

All best

Kurlo won't install for me

When I attempt to install Kurlo on my new Windows 7 machine, several files fail to install:

I receive the following messages:
Could not create this file. Shall I try again?
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurlo\classes\jdic.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurlo\jdic.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurlo\Kurlo.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurlo\uninstall.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurlo\install4j\i4jdel.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurlo\install4j\i4jinst.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurlo\.install4j\unicows.dll
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kurlo\.install4j\_shfoldr.dll

Any suggestions as to how to resolve this issue would be appreciated.

I am having the same problem with Kurlo not saving itself and asking for user name when started again. I downloaded Kurl on a new computer running Windows 7. I did have a problem loading it for a while but it seem to fix itself and allowed me to load Kurlo.

Kurlo is a great program. To get it to run on Win 7 or 8, I first had to restart in clean boot mode, then install it by right clicking the program and then choosing "Run as administrator". Next, I went to C, program files(x86), Kurlo, right click Kurlo.exe, choose properties, choose compatibility tab, then check "run this program in compatibility mode for" and choose "Windows XP service pack 2". Lower down, check "run this program as an administrator" and then click OK. After that, I moved those pack files as above, and everything has been working properly.
