I guess I am the only one didn't have a problem with Vista, but I don't do all the things to my PC some of you do. I had 4 or 5 white outs then that stopped and it was fine. Someone said Vista had problems but it was fixed with an update and was fine.

I loved Vista, couldn`t wait to install it, it`s just a tad slow and a memory hog.

7 is the best

The only issue I had with Vista was it required more computing power than my XP machine could handle (though later updates reduced that problem later on) and it had compatibility issues with some of my hardware and software so I kept using XP. The same was true when Win 7 first came out. Those were the only issues I had with either one. Since I wasn't about to shell out the shekels to replace what was then perfectly good hardware (the computer, a printer, and a scanner) and software (including one that was going to cost me over $400 to upgrade), I waited until said hardware and software (I got lucky on the expensive one and it cost me only $210 plus it was a dramatic upgrade) were due to be replaced anyway, then upgraded to Win 7. While I had the belief that Win 7 was a good OS, I expected a really steep learning curve; I was unexpectedly surprised—almost shocked—to find I was able to function on it from the word go.

And there you go, you just reiterated what we`ve all been saying, it takes user input to install 10, it WILL NOT do it on it`s own.

So if you install a clean copy of Win7 Pro SP1, leave all of the settings untouched, turn OFF the WU "Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, Version 1511, 10586" box, and let the machine sit overnight, you deserve to get Windows 10.

Alrightee then. I think we live in different universes.

Just because a lot people mistakenly install the "Upgrade to Windows 10" update since it's checked by default doesn't mean that it happens to everyone or that's it's forced on you.

I have yet to have Windows 10 forced on me from 5 clean installed VMs fully updated.

It doesn't, do you think that if it did I wouldn't notice when I watch almost every post that is made on this network (17 million visitors a day), the only folks I've seen upgrade have wanted to or been not too bright (we have quite a few of those).

In fact, not only do the vast majority of people have updates set to automatically download and install, most computer experts advise people to do just that since most people aren't responsible enough to manually download and install them. That makes them sitting ducks enabling MS to take unfair advantage of them.

True, if you disable Automatic Update (and some wayward program doesn't turn it back on for you), Win10 does not get installed.

But note that Auto Update is turned on by default, as is "Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important updates."

If you look at my screenshots above, the upgrade to Windows 10 is an optional update. Optional updates do not get automatically installed by Windows, but only installed by the user that left it checked when they manually checked for and installed updates themselves.

It appears that it's easier for them to blame Microsoft forcing it on them than for them to accept responsibility that they installed it by their own actions.
