Actually all your questions can be answered in the guide I posted a link to earlier.

i know.... but i wanr MY settings. not some one else that was shooting for 4.8GHz. so ive been tweaking a little...

but anyway, i have LLC set to high and Power phase set to optimized. i found my voltage and now am testing for 100% stability.

currently at 4.2GHz im at 1.120V and 62C MAX on the hottest core... in prime so far no errors.... sound good?

this is with ALL power saving features turned off. when i get a full 100% stable, i will turn them on again and run prime again and increase voltage if need be.

is it normal to see my 4.2 OC not listed in control panel in windows? CPUz is saying 4.2.

The reason I mentioned the guide again is for your benefit, two systems with identical hardware will require different settings to get the same OC. That's why it's a guide, not instructions.

ok is there a stress test out there that is say not very stressfull on the CPU? im passing IBT and Prime, but im getting a lot of force closing on games that ive never had before, and i think its because the cpu is failing...

Are you generating any crash logs?

Have you run these games at system default settings?

Uhmm it's failing because you applied settings that shouldn't be now go back to stock and stop lowering the the offset to a Minus state

All you should be doing is finding out how far it can oc off that stock voltage and go from there but you just have to go against the grain lol the chip is not failing you are making it do something it shouldn't be doing

It was made to run at that voltage for a reason everyone here has pretty much had no hassle issues with that cpu please if anything listen to us this time and return to stock use a medium LLC and see how far you can push it from there then adjust the offset in a + Mode i have no clue why you are trying to drop it below that

Turbo and hyper threading use so much at stock and pretty much you are trying to make it run a lot lower then intended which is why stability is killing you the programs are probably crashing because lack of power and cpu can't function because it's hungry for juice

Yes, do this. Run at stock setting, you have to make sure the system is stable BEFORE and OCing is done. Stay away from the ROG guide, that's a whole different animal than what you have.

ok so at stock settings, ive noticed no crashing and was running rock stable. i uped my offset to -100 for a 1.128v in prime on medium LLC, and ran a bunch of benchmarks both on full 100% cpu and 70% (2.4GHz power plan in windows) and all of them ran rock solid and stable again. so i believe i fixed it. btw, when i first started to OC this CPU, i changed the offset from auto to -.05 and set to 4.2 and started to run prime from there. when i booted in windows, i noticed that it was running at 1.35v on the core. so thats y i have such a high negative offset. also, i never said that the CPU was defective. i knew it wasent. i knew it was something with the bios or just a windows option. i thought cause i put a new mobo in, i would have to reinstall windows all over again despite the fact that its the same mobo. but its all good for now. thanks everyone!

This is my method of overclocking and I am sure many others on here -

Then test the hell out of it in Windows, adjust it lower until it's not stable and back up again or higher if it's not stable. Test it big time, stress tests/benchmarks/games and general use. Only once you are 100% certain it is stable at that voltage at that speed then you can go back into the bios, re-enable Speedstep and apply the same voltage using offset mode.

naa, the problem was that it was 100% stable with speedstep turned off on high LLC, but once i re-enabled it, thats when All the programs began to crash. i used a higher offset and used medium LLC and now its fine. 100% stable

ok so the crashing has stopped, however, im getting a random stutter where both video and audio freeze for about a second then return to normal.... any ideas what could be causing this? theres no errors in event log

its happening on all stock settings too in all games. drivers r up to date. DPC latency is fine. idk what it is...

To show volts and much more, download and install HWinfo for your 32 bit or 64 bit system.

ive ran all the tests, and they all passed and voltages are all perfect. i dident have this problem before the mobo swap. however, i really DON'T think its hardware related. i think its something to do with windows... problem is.... what?


ive ran all the performance and reliability tests in windows, and everything is fine so it says. idk what is to explain this sudden freeze tho.


im thinking i may have to reinstall. but i want that to be my last resort

Are you using High performances in Power Plan or just regular? Also there's a setting to let alone in Bios, is "CPU Power Response Control" and you could raise the "Cpu power thermal control" from default setting if you haven't done it already.
