i was gonna go with ivy bridge 3770k and this mobo

i would like the sabertooth, but i really dont need that much OC potential or features. if they go on sale by the time i buy, ill get one.

You say this now but in a week or so you will be trying to hit some numbers i would just buckle down and get what's more effective

I know you are probably going against the grain because everyone else has one and there should be other boards that can match performance but the proof is in the pudding one of the best boards you are going to find hands down owning 2 x Sabertooth from AMD and Intel were no accident by me it was a deviated plan from the jump

I have a ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 with a i5-2550K and reached 5.1GHz with it. That pro series board is a good choice, I also have a P8Z77-V Pro I'm going to slap in a i7-3770K for my wife.

the Max OC i will be doing for everyday is 4.6-4.8. out of the box i want to OC to 4.2 however. as much as i would like a saberthooth, its just way too much money and way too expansive for my needs.

ive found the CPU for $250 at micro and also found the mobo in ebay used for $100. so im probs going to be shooting in that direction.

I would be very leery with used PC parts from eBay, you have no real recourse if it arrives defective.

and ya i know, but if they have a return available, i would do it. also, if its still under warranty from asus, i could just call then and send mine in for rma and get a new or better refurbished one.

What's about a refurbished mobo coming from a returns with a 3/6month warranty. Here we've got some asus P8Z77-V Pro for 60% the price, but the counterpart is missing often the Wifi GO! module in their sales.

My mobo (see specs) is 10 phases and doing right at OC 4.2 24/h and hit sometimes 4.6/ 4.8GHz.
Plus, Asus motherboard brand begins to stop giving updates to their softwares and bios. With all those drivers updates coming next year for windows 8.1 and next....

Asus already provided some oRom for Z97 and H97...

i wouldn't spend too much now in a Z77 motherboard even if benchmarks tell Sandy & Ivy to stay some of the best. That is obvious i will upgrade at least to a Z87 mobo in two years.
