To review: by Launching CSM it shows in BIOS options your DVD drive and HD independent of UEFI DVD drive and Windows Boot Manager, so that they can be set correctly for MBR install with DVD drive first, HD second?

This will be valuable information for others with your mobo who search with this problem.

In both cases I'm unable to install Windows, a message shows NO Operating system found.

theog, my problem is completely different. As I said already, in UEFI mode, the Windows Install is freezing during DVD boot - as soon as the Windows splash screen is shown so this is *before* and GUI is started. Yes, I unplugged all peripherals and it made no difference. I *cannot* follow the Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7 simply because I can't even initiate the Install, I don't even get to the GUI.

As stated earlier, I believe the problem is with an internal splash screen for my motherboard. I did a clean Windows 8 UEFI install and when Windows 8 was launching, instead of seeing the new Windows (the flat one) splash screen, I was seeing the ASUS one all the way to the desktop! So the system must have some sort of "hard coded" functionality to detect when a Windows is loading and if so, it forces its own logo, replacing the original Windows one. Windows 8 probably is the only one that can process this signal from the UEFI. Since Windows 7 is a "Windows", *probably* while Windows 7 DVD is loading at the logo, the system tries to replace the logo but if W7 is not coded to process the signal, it hangs at the logo. This is my theory....

Thank you so much! I've been trying to downgrade an F75a for the past 3 hours. Searching the internet was practically futile. Considering that the DVD drive would show up under SATA Devices, but wasn't available as a boot option I was just about to throw this thing against the wall. As I type this I've got Win7 installing smoothly. You're a life saver.

rwx could not do it in uEFI mode.

How to in uEFI:
Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7

By enable Legacy BIOS, any BIOS update will return the BIOS back to uEFI mode.

Honestly though, I tried to boot to CD after disabling secure mode, and yet it did NOT give me an option to boot to the Win7 DVD. The DVD Drive didn't even show as an option in Boot Options. The AMI Bios is that machine is a ******* in UEFI mode. Once I figued out what it took to enable Legacy mode, the ball was back in my court. So to any new members who are trying to figure out this issue in ASUS laptops, or really any laptop running an AMI BIOS with Secureboot... this is all you need to know!

Having The Exact Same Issue With My Asus

I was VERY relieved to see that I am not the only one having this issue. I'm also very experienced with BIOS systems and MBR drives but this is my first experience with GPT and UEFI. I'm trying to get the UEFI Boot to work in hopes of getting aroumd theissue that is created when doing the stardard BIOS boot. The issue being not being able to install because of GPT. I wanted to find out if booting using EUFI would allow me to install Win 7 on a GPT. I'm kinda trying to keep my recovery partition in tact. I have the same issue. Win 7 boot loader appears then just stops. Win 7 is supposed to be UEFI capable. I'm stuck. All I know is I want Win 8 gone. Any help you can offer is appreciated.

@GregRocker Thank you for your reply but I fail to see how your post helps me solve my issue at all. Firstly, it doesn't even address why I am unable to do an UEFI Boot from my Win 7 disk. Secondly, as I already said in my post, I would like to retain my Win 8 recovery partition. I simply want a way to overwrite my boot partition and leave everything else alone.

If you want to retain your Win8 Recov partition and boot UEFI install disk then you must follow the steps I posted which vary from a normal Win7 install.

You must also turn off Win8 Secure Boot on a Win8 preinstalled PC.

First I would try to install only to formatted C, then if necessary delete C and the EFI partition to create New partitions which should also recreate the EFI partition as required for Win7 UEFI install.

You may have to delete all partitions to get it to reinstall correctly, but in that case you can make Recovery media first - which I would do anyway to have a secondary backup. You can also save a System image of Win8 to use in place of Factory Recovery.

Hi Shane, as I stated earlier, I solved my issue by enabling legacy BIOS support. Look at Page 4, posts 4 and 5. You need to enable Legacy MBR by enabling Launch CSM in the EFI Setup. Once I enabled this, I've had 0 issues and I installed Windows 7 64-bit and I have been able to boot everything like I did I on my old PC. I have no need for UEFI boot.

You're not hearing me are you? I can't even boot into the setup to even begin to investigate my optioms. I've tried the delete and format method under BIOS boot and no dice. Really hate GPT. It's more trouble than it's worth. Am just trying to explore the UEFI option to see if going that route has any affect on being able to install Win 7 directly to my boot drive and not have to wipe and rebuild everything. BIOS install fails because it wants MBR and sees GPT. Yes I plan on backing up everything before I do anything.

Now that you explain it's lookin for an MBR disk then we can hear you a little better. Don't expect us to read your mind.

We'd assume if you have a Win8 PC which you also don't divulge, that it is already set to UEFI with Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module disabled. Check that now in BIOS setup.

In fact I'd reset BIOS to defaults if you actually have a UEFI BIOS, which you've also never clearly stated.

The procedure is here to Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7.

If there's the slightest tone of rudeness going forward on your part, you'll need to take it the shop where they get paid to put up with that. We are volunteers who don't have to.

@rwx Thanks for your reply. I am trying to do this without having to wipe the drive clean but I'm starting to think that maybe this is my only option. I am starting to womder why these laptop companies chose to use GPT over MBR. There's nothing to be gained on a laptop as their hard drives are usually small, 500 mb is the biggest I've seen so there is no point other than to make life difficult for those of us who hate Win 8.
