Asus N76 UEFI - W7 64 Install Hangs on Logo (DVD UEFI Boot)

I am sorry also if I got hotheaded. As for me I did manage to get Win 7 to boot UEFI and all I did was delete my data partition then booted the Win 7 dvd and it let me boot UEFI. It may be all for nothing cause the WLan drivers listed on the Asus web site dont match. The Win 8 driver is the right one according to device manager and I can't find the driver anywhere on the net so it kinda looks like I'm stuck with Win 8. *Puke*

Did you run Updates repeatedly with reboots to intsall all Important and Optional Updates which will deliver most drivers not in the installer? First enable Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware (Step 3). This is how drivers are handled in the first driver-complete OS.

First I had to get some kind of network connectivity working. My LAN driver installed OK amd now I'm running Windows Update to see if it can resolve some of my driver issues for me. I'll keep you posted. Did you have unallocated space on your drive when you tried to do the UEFI Boot?

I recently installed a dual boot of 7 after shrinking 8 on a factory preinstall I wanted to sample 7 in. It was all in UEFI. So I know it can have other partitions and unallocated space I created into a partition during install.

Win8 drives should work with Win7, but more importantly Win7 should deliver almost all of its own drivers with only rare exceptions.

Read over Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which summarizes what works best based on tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here. Granted, however, most of them were MBR installs.

When I have more time, I will respond to your questions Greg. I have not forgotten. I think I might have to take a video of my laptop's UEFI boot-up process from the point I insert the CD so you can see what's going on.

Still I am grateful for being able to boot using legacy BIOS as a lot of Linux distros are MBR based. I am willing to wait additional 5 seconds of boot time (BIOS based) in order to gain full compatibility.

As of this moment I have a working base install of Win 7 Pro on my laptop with all known device drivers accounted for. Thanks to all those who assisted me along the way. Sorry for being short tempered with a few of you along the way. I was fixed on solving the issue of why I could not boot using UEFI because I wanted to understand that side of it as well as I understand CSM and MBR. I wanted a complete picture of both sides before moving forward with the install. I just don't like unanswered questions. Now I have at least a basic understanding of UEFI and GPT. Hope that makes sense. Again, thanks guys I appreciate the assist.

As you have already reset CSM from UEFI to Legacy, reset back to UEFI.(in some BIOS's you set CSM to UEFI & Legacy)

Downgraded 195 PC's last week from Windows 8x64 UEFI Pre-installed to Windows 7x64 UEFI with NO problems.

@rwx I would like to try and help you solve your UEFI Boot issue since you've been so patient with me. What version of Win 7 are you attempting to install? Can you provide a list of the files present on your DVD, specifically the files related to boot. They are found on the root and in the EFI folder also found on the root.

Hey guys, all of of the screenshots of my UEFI (or BIOS, don't know how to call it) setup utility are posted on the first page here: http://www.sevenforums.com/installa...i-w7-64-install-hangs-logo-dvd-uefi-boot.html in post #9. I also did what theog mentioned by disabling MBR boot and re-enabling UEFI boot and booted the Windows 7 DVD but the problem remains.

When the Windows 7 setup shows the Windows splash screen, it freezes at that point and remains there doing nothing. I can leave it for hours and nothing will happen. As you can see, I don't even get to the "Welcome to Windows 7 Setup" screen let alone partitioning the disk.... that is, I don't even get to the graphical side of the setup. It freezes at the splash screen. This *only* happens with UEFI boot and Windows 7. It doesn't not happen with UEFI boot Windows 8 or BIOS boot (thx God) Windows 7. I simply cannot explain why this happens. Not even any error messages. I have to say, I am really disappointed but not upset as I got it to work with legacy MBR.

I am installing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and I have 16GB of RAM on a Core i7 laptop, model name N76_VZ. I will reply to your post after a few hours as it is late night where I am. The DVD is 100% MS authentic DVD so my files would be the same as everyone else's.

@rwx how big is your target drive? Is there any unallocated space on the drive when you try to do the install. Not free space unallocated space. I hade removed my data partition before the UEFI boot worked for me.

Are you using flash stick installer? I had to make some adjustments to get it to work as shown in the comments section here from two weeks ago (around pages 15-17): UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows

I got my UEFI Boot to work. I'm just trying to help resolve rwx's issue. Strange thing though, since resolving the inital problem I've had no issues booting UEFI. Haven't had to delete my data partition. It boots, lets me select my target partition and installs. Could there be an issue with Win 8 GPT and Win 7 GPT. In other words Win 7 doesn't like Win 8 GPT? Just a thought.

As I said earlier a common troubleshooting step for getting Win7 to install - and to convert from MBR to GPT or vice versa - is to wipe the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command.

Other than that I'm not familar with how deleting a partition can resolve install problems, but so much about UEFI is new to us here we are still on a steep learning curve.

As for me, I think I've decided to return my laptop to the store. I don't like or wanna use Win 8 and I don't have the extra cash to do what is needed to downgrade my laptop. I thought I had what I needed to do the downgrade, drivers, Win 7 CD and Anytime Upgrade keys. I was wrong. I haven't made a final decision yet. I'm in the process now of restoring the laptop to factory settings.

I did the exact same thing two weeks ago after trying Win7 on a core I5 Win8 laptop Best Buy had on sale for $399. In the end it just wasn't compelling enough to justify replacing my trusty companion. I also want more time to find the perfect deal, now that I've scoped out how I'll swap in Win7.

I hope they will give you your money back. Office Depot will tell you they do and then only give a store credit. Best Buy is the only one I know that gives your money back within 15 days if everything's still together.

I returned a Toshiba laptop already because they had absolutely NO support for Win 7. No drivers no nothing. I bought the Asus I have now because Asus at least had Win 7 drivers. I figured the rest would be easy. I bought the laptop at HHGregg. I've already called them and asked about returning it. They said no problem. It's a shame but I just dont have the money to do what is needed to make this work and I'm tired of pulling my hair out trying to find a solution. Thanks for you're help and patience. Sorry for being short tempered.

If you can Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7 you're not really missing out on anything by all reports. UEFI is just a can of worms with little advantage now.
