Asynchronous Transfer Mode

For my coursework at college, I need to describe various network technologies, standards and protocols. For WAN's, I have chosen Asynchronous Transfer Mode. However, I cannot find anything about the standards or protocols for it.
If anyone give me a link to somewhere detailing the standards or protocols, or a description of one, it would be very much appreciated.

Yes, it must be hard these days to type "atm asynchronous transfer mode" into google and try to figure out what to do with the 864,000 results. Pick one, and start there. Maybe even the first result with the "I'm feeling lucky" button, then scroll down.

I am perfectly capable of using Google, I just can't find a link which clearly explains the protocols involved.
