AVG Search Toolbar ?

I can direct you to this thread where JMH has helped you with that,

http://www.sevenforums.com/system-security/88470-avg-9-update.html

Or to this video that you can watch,

Just fast forward to the set up instructions.

If I find someone that uses AVG I'll point them to this thread.

What settings are you having trouble with? The video above is pretty self explanatory and thorough.

I believe you may be using internet explorer as your web browser. To the left of the AVG toolbar is a "X" click on it, you will have a pop up with two options. Choose the second, the toolbar should disappear and not return.

This will remove the yahoo toolbar but not the wholle software (AVG.)

If I've understood brightsun correctly, the toolbar is no longer a problem.

I think there are some settings that seem to be confusing.

Is this correct brightsun?

brightsun,
Please answer these questions.[In the other thread you avoided doing this.]
1. Who installed your AVG Anti Virus program for you? [I seem to recall you saying someone else did]
2. Did your computer come with another Anti Virus program installed?

Early in the other thread I gave you guidance on how to fill in your System Specs & the reason why it was recommended. I note that they are still not done.
If you wish to receive help from us it would be nice if you followed our directions.

Derek, you are showing great patience. Well done.

Hi, brightsun.

I believe that is because you did not install the the Yahoo toolbar (for which AVG gets paid per installation). Without the toolbar, you lose some of the options in controlling LinkScanner. From FAQ 2390
What is the AVG Security Toolbar and how can I disable it? at AVG Free - FAQ
Disabling or uninstalling the AVG Security Toolbar has no negative effect on the level of security provided by LinkScanner component. The only consequence of missing toolbar is an absence of some of the options, and less verbose information about the threats found by the LinkScanner component. The main settings of the LinkScanner component can be still configured in AVG User Interface.

(No, I do not and will not use AVG. :) )

Not many of us are "technical." We always endevour to do our best helping others.

I would suggest all of your current problems with your AVG would be better addressed by your Tech person who installed the program.....
There should be a "duty of care" provided. You are not satisfied with things as they are. This person should be made aware. You should also watch, ask questions & make sure that you are completely happy before leaving.

brightsun,

I am not trying to be rude or belittle you in any way but by your own admission you

"are not technical" , that being said, for someone to try and explain some fairly

technical settings to you would be a quite a feat.

If you are not getting infections and your antivirus is working for you it is probably

best to leave it at the default settings and when you actually have a problem you

can then seek help with it.

I hope you don't take that the wrong way, but alot of people have helped you here

and like the old saying goes, "If it aint broke don't fix it" .

I hope you find the satisfaction you are looking for with your AVG settings.

Take care,

Derek

Better you download it from softpedia Download AVG Free Edition 9.0 Build 819a2842 Free - Award winning protection to meet your basic security needs - Softpedia .

While installing, the Yahoo search may me checked by default; dont forget to uncheck it, and if it is not checked at all ... let it remain so; so do it carefully.

But if you are in search of a free antivirus, why not you try avast! - Download Free Antivirus Software or Internet Security ?

Arc when I install I do not want Yahoo search may I uncheck it,? is their another Toolbar besides Yahoo search when you install ?
Go through the installation ... after two or three pages the installer will prompt you to install yahoo toolbar, to set yahoo as your default search engine, and etc etc. Usually these options are checked by default. So you need to uncheck these all . Many programs come bundled with those scrap items including one of my favorite program Ccleaner.

But if they are not checked, just press next on that page.

Better you do not install any toolbar during AVG installation. If you want a toolbar to work with your web browser, download it separately later, and install is it is .
