I have mixed feelings about the closings.

I think it is important to retain brick and mortar because of jobs, and yes it is nice to be able to touch and use what you are going to buy BEFORE you put your money down on it.....that being said....

I definitely agree that BB has failed miserably to meet the challenge of online buying from Amazon and others.

My feeling is that it was arrogance and greed. These guys did not want to work hard enough to earn more customer's business, add that with sometimes downright obnoxious sales staff (BB has some of the absolute worst) and you have a recipe for disaster.

The bottom line is that BB needed lower prices, more selection, better value and much better staff. They need to sell more volume at slightly lower profit margins, it can be done, the question is will greed prevent them from realizing that.

^ It's hard for a retail store, to hire "quality" employees and pay them a wage suitable for somebody with extensive product knowledge and stay in business if they are selling at lower profit margins.

yeah I see best buy as the next circuit city and completely shutting down.

It's difficult to compete with online stores in the electronics world.

It's more profitable to have stock in several distrbution hubs around the country and ship the iitems.

I saw a special on this a few months ago.
Best Buy has almost turned into a place to go and actually see and hold the items before you go home and buy them online.

The closing of 50 stores comes as no surprise as they have to come up with a new non conventional way to have brick and mortar stores and keep sales in them.

Small time sellers like myself can almost compete with doing drop shipping.

That would be pretty difficult to do. The only thing that come to mind for me, is that they create online warehouses with local sales stores attached, so that when someone walks in, they can buy an item at the same price as online. Of course, that would mean paying sales tax, but it would be offset by the lower prices and no shipping fees. Obviously, that would still mean very limited locations, and a lot of towns would still go without local stores.

I think Bestbuy should do like what Sam's Club does. You have to pay for membership. That way, whether people buy their products in store or just look and use the product hands on and leave, they will still make money.

Problem with that is Sam's aka Walmart sells everything one stop shop was the logo when i was a manager there

I doubt best buy can do more then what they do as it is to be like walmart they would have to do all kinds of re thinking and sales price dropping to compete which right now Costco and Sam's Walmart wins in almost every category

Would you trust best buy employee's cooking samples if they can't even find one on the floor plus if you paid for membership they better act like they have custromers which would probally make them more snooty then they already are

The real problem is that at this rate, we won't have anywhere to go to actually look at stuff left. We'll just have to order online and hope the picture/specs does it justice.

^ Yep, that's the issue that I have with all of this e-commerce. And then when you do need information, you have to scour the web to look for it. And then weed through the idiots who are biased, and those who don't know what they are talking about, etc. Stores like Best Buy never had great service because their staff is often very young adult and they aren't being paid that much, but with old mom and pop shops and specialty stores, you used to be able to get service. For example, I have a local bike shop that I deal with. And they they aren't the best price for parts and accessories, the sales staff is knowledgeable and they do my bike tuneups and such and they do a fabulous job. So, I'm willing to pay more for the parts and accessories because the knowledge and support is worth it.

I can't remember the last time that I dealt with any kind of store or shop...chain or mom and pop, where I felt that I got reliable service. For example, many years ago, I took my motorcycle in to a factory authorized sales and repair shop down in Texas to have the rear wheel's spokes tuned. Two days later, that wheel collapsed going do the highway at 70 MPH. For this reason, I have always preferred doing things myself, when able. Unfortunately, my age no longer permits me to do nearly as much as I used to. I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for reliable service, but not an arm and a leg. However, I currently don't know of such places, regardless of the price paid.

^That's too bad that you don't have anything reliable near you. I have a few places that I do rely on and get quality service. My VW dealer is solid that I take my car to, the bike shop which I mentioned already, there are a variety of running stores that I go to for shoes and such which are great.
