Hi,
I installed a copy of win 7 pro on a older hard drive with ahci enabled after about 3 hours (I check on it as it was doing windows update and must have rebooted) hung on the bios screen so I hit del key to go into the bios and it had hung jest before searching the Sata devices (Sata ports in ahci mode) so I left it for a day after doing some research I tryed a cmos jumper reset and was going to install windows with the (Sata ports in ide mode)

Note: The system does have a Sata DVD rom in it.

I am thinking that if I replace the hard drive with a brand new one that will fix the issues thoughts?
(I am thinking the drive may be on a edge of complete failure or something like that)

Thanks,
Nathan Saunders

Nathan,

The first thing I would do is to unplug the drive in question and then turn the computer on, and see if BIOS still hangs at boot. If you're right about the drive, BIOS will go all the way through its routine and then stop and tell you there is no boot device.

If that happens, it's probably better to replace the hard disk.

"hung on the bios screen"

this usually means it hung right as it began to detect primary devices like mouse, keyboard, hard drive. Suggest you do as Mellon suggested and post the specific results.
