BIOS update

i am still curious as to whether or not the update would add anything useful.
Usually the mfg will list exactly what the new BIOS provides. I'd look for that, it might be called release notes or changelog or something to that effect. It should provide you with the details of what it does and depending upon that...you can determine whether it's something that you think you actually need.

The heat issue probably is more due to the hardware you're using than anything that may or may not be wrong with BIOS. Try taking apart your laptop and cleaning the dust out of it. Sometimes that helps immensely.

Dusting the hardware has made a big difference in terms of temperature and as far the BIOS i get the if it aint broke dont fix it idea but i am still curious as to whether or not the update would add anything useful.

Last time I updated a BIOS unnecessarily (if it ain't broke don't try to fix it) I had to reinstall the OS and everything else too. Waste of 3 hours

Did you know what you were doing at the time? A reinstall of the OS wouldn't be necessary.

Not really, first time in a lot of years.. windows 7 freezes on startup at the slightest change in hardware configuration from the bios. Could not get past the splash screen, but no BSOD at least

No, the last time I flashed a bios on a computer didn't have any problems was about 7 years ago

Right, but if the BIOS update breaks if you have Dual-Bios or turned the option on to back up the BIOS to HDD (or both) you won't have any issues. As for the OS reinstall, thats a separate issue to getting the BIOS working.

I looked for that earlier and found nothing. Maybe it's there, where I couldn't find it, but remembering the distant past, when I had a Gateway, they are not good about providing details.
