Blue Screens and Random Reboots

Sorry I didn't reply earlier, I don't think the Windows 7 install is bugged because I used to get blue screens a lot on Vista too, the only reason I got 7 was because of the trouble I was having with Vista

As for drivers, I will turn off automatic drivers and try the signature check when I get back

Jason, thanks for the update. That is a good point that you were having BSOD's with Vista. It may not be a bad install of Win 7.

Hello !!

We might wanna find if there is any Drivers that is not verified. If it's something software this should help us finding it

Download this
http://live.sysinternals.com/sigcheck.exe save it your C Drive.

Start | CMD | Right Click and Run as administrator

Then type in cd\ then Hit enter
Code:
sigcheck -u -e c:\windows\system32 > C:\Sicheck.txt
Hit Enter

It might take a while then it will create a file under C Drive Upload that file it will give us a lit of Drivers that is not verified.

Good Luck,
Captain

Uploaded the .txt

I'm going to turn driver verifier back on now

Hello !!

It doesn't look like there are any drivers that is not verified !! It's just JAVA which I don't think it will cause any problems. Since you had issues with Vista as well that leave to think me it might be some Hardware it's always hard to find which Hardware is causing problems. Did you check the Temperatures ?? What about your PSU ?? Does it have enough power ?? How long it's been since you serviced your Tower ?? Like cleaning the dust out etc ? Have you updated your BIOS ?

It would also be great if someone could help me get SpeedFan configured correctly since my system is still running at 100% fan speed :S

The PSU I have had changed before from 720W to 750W, the PSU is fine itself and hasn't had any problems

The only service was where the PSU was changed, the last time I got rid of dust was last month by using compressed air

I did a BIOS update two days ago

hi jason786, maybe this will help Speedfan Settings/Tutorial ;)
Cheers, I set minimum to 1, and then it dropped to one, and even when the temperatures reached 50 degrees the fan didn't turn to max..

So now the rages are 80-100, I thought it should automatically detect danger temperatures?

For controlling the fan you would be better off using what is in the bios if available, Speedstep (may be listed as EIST) and Q-fan. Between the two of them they will lower the CPU speed when full power isn't needed, and lower the fan speed.

One thing from that Speedfan picture, if that 12V reading is anywhere close to being accurate then that could very well be the problem with stability. Software is one of the worst ways for checking voltages, best is to test with a volt/multi-meter and then compare the real values to what the software reports. As for that 12V reading the general rule used to be and still is +/- 5%, and if that reported 11.46V is anywhere near correct, with the system at idle doesn't leave a lot of room when the system is at load.

Hmm, stability was the reason I got the PSU changed originally

Edit: My PC just rebooted randomly, the first reboot/blue screen today, but I suppose it's no use without a .dmp :/

Well I just received a further two restarts

It's strange because they started happening a little while after I changed my fan speed to 80%

Although, I don't think the PC is overheating because the temp has stayed at 44 degrees constant throughout

Jason in Speedfan click on Configure, and click on the Log tab and enable logging. Next click on the Voltages tab and then click on the 12, 5 and 3.3V readings and select Logged for each. It will then log those three reading to a file in the folder where Speedfan is installed as long as Speedfan is running. When you get the next crash, then go to the Speedfan folder make a copy of the log file (will look something like this, SFLog20100629.cvs), and change the file extension for .cvs to .txt and upload the renamed file to this thread please.

As I said software is no real substitute to checking with a volt meter, but it will do for this as it will show how much if any voltage drop there is when the system crashes.

Hi -

If these BSODs are indeed hardware related, the possibility then exists that such unknown hardware failure may have corrupted the Windows 7 installation in some manner.

I ran the last attached dump and found 3 drivers that need updating. Two of them are network related - both Ethernet and wifi. These older NIC drivers coupled with the fact that this particular BSOD lists XFire as the process running on CPUx at the time of the crash suggests to me that these aged drivers play a part here.

Seeing win32k.sys, the Microsoft Win32 subsystem driver, listed as the probable cause could very well be due to the outdated ATI video drivers. Video is one of the very few areas permitted to transition from user-mode into kernel code territory.

Code:
[FONT=lucida console]L1E62x64.sys Thu Jun 11 02:45:22 2009 (4A30A802) - Atheros Ethernet[/FONT]

[FONT=lucida console]Dnetr28ux.sys Wed Aug 05 09:59:46 2009 (4A799052) - D-Link Wifi LAN Card [/FONT]

[FONT=lucida console]atikmdag.sys Mon Aug 17 23:05:47 2009 (4A8A1A8B) - ATI video[/FONT]

Check Device manager for specific device information -
START | devmgmt.msc

ATI --> Graphics Drivers & Software

Atheros --> Atheros Communications

D-Link --> D-Link - TechSupport

If no-go at D-Link, try -

Linksys --> Support and Services
Ralink --> Ralink corp.

Update the 3 drivers and see if BSODs persist.

Hello Jason,

Dump didn't point anything specific the crash has happen with Java application. I remember when we ran the Sigchecker it found few Java dlls that has issues with. So i guess it's best to remove the Java application. Also was a Memory read error
Code:
