Solved Boot manager corrupted - Windows fails to boot

I was having issues with Windows crashing when waking up from sleep. Everything seemed to point to driver issues, and while chasing that down I deleted several Acronis drivers from the registry. Acronis had been uninstalled, but left some artifacts behind.When I rebooted I got an Boot Manager error - basically not found.

I ran Windows startup repair 2-3 times without effect.

Windows recovery shows 2 recent backups are present, but neither is visible from the Restore window.

Tried to repair the MBR from Partition Wizard (8.1) and although it was successful Windows still doesn't boot. PW shows the partition is present and active but not as boot.

Are you saying that after editing the Registry Win7 will not start? This can be fatal if you didn't save a System Restore point before messing with the registry.

Try a System Restore from http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html as far back as necessary.

If that fails confirm that Win7 or it's System Reserved partition (preferred if you have it) is Partition Marked Active then run http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105541-startup-repair-run-3-separate-times.html.

You will get and keep a perfect install for exactly as long as you stick with the tools and methods in that tutorial, as proven by over a million consumers who have used it without a single complaint.

The Windows partition is marked as active (according to PW8).
From System Recovery Options >>> main window - no Win installations populate the OS box
From System Recovery Options >>> Reimage your computer, an image is listed from just prior to the error (2 days ago). However, when I select this image, I get;

"The selected system image cannot be restored in this recovery environment."

But as described, when I go to the System Restore" menu ... no items are listed.

Are you using the Win7 installation disk or http://www.sevenforums.com/performance-maintenance/51100-repair-cd-system-repair-disk.html?

If image won't apply then, try Bootrec/Bootsect in Windows Recovery Environment to force install to show to run Startup Repair on it.

Using Windows install disk.

However, I now see that the BIOS is not detecting the HDD - so that explains some stuff! The drive appears as healthy when I install it in another box, with all the partitions intact. Hmm.

So the disk wasn't being recognized as SATA. Now that it is PW seems to be saying boot.ini is missing (bootable partition does not contain boot.ini). Is there a way to create /restore that?

Have you worked through the other steps in the Failure to Boot Tutorial? PW is only one step and not the most robust so try all the steps given to know you've done everything, or skip to file rescue and Recovery or the Reinstall.

Seems my original disk was damaged. D/l'd the official MS .iso and it was able to restore the boot sector without losing the configuration.
