I have read another thread with this same issue but I openly admin this above me so I am having to ask for info in smaller chunks.

My wife shout down her computer this morning took it on remote location for work today but never booted it up. When she got back home tonight it wouldn't boot up. I don't know what to call these screen but some Startup Repair screen. Just says Repair action: Boot sector repair, Result: Failed.

I downloaded and burned to CD the boot CD for the MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition but I don't know what disk I am even looking for. I see 3 partitions listed for one disk.

The only one with a label is BDEDrive and it's 300 MB. The other two have *: as what I would call a label. One is 297.79 GB and the other is 12.34 MB. The BDEDrive is the only with with status of Active. NTFS on that partition and Other on the big partition.

Can some guide me through what I should do next?

Thanks in advance.

If I understood the instructions correctly I should run the that repair process 3 times and I have run it a dozen plus times. I am getting the same results as before. The same results every time it just prompts me for two boot optioins. One is the recover attempt and of course the other is a normal boot.

Thanks.

Did you create the system repair disc and run startup repair with it ?

I did not. Again please over look my lack of knowledge on this.

After reading the info I thought that the system repair disc was a tool to get me to the System Recovery Options if Windows was not taking me there by default. From the screen shots on the "How to create a Windows 7 System Repair Disc" page it looks just like where I have been.

Is the HD detected in BIOS setup? if so run the Partition Wizard Partition surface test
to check its physical condition, then Partition Wizard Check File System.

If the HD checks out then confirm the 100mb System Reserved (preferred) or C partition is marked Active, then run Partition Wizard Rebuild MBR - Video Help. If Win7 fails to start then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times. If it fails to start move the Active flag to C and repeat.

If these all fail start at the top of the steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start including the hardware tests.

Thanks for the reply gregrocker.

I can't see anywhere in the BIOS where it is listing the HD. This is a ThinkPad and I have, Main, Config, Date/Time, Security, Startup, and Restart as my options. I am looking in Startup as nothing else even list something close to where a HD entry should be. The first option under "Startup" is "Boot" but nothing listed to the right of that. Maybe there shouldn't be, maybe that is the sub-heading. So the next thing listed is "Network Boot" and lists the PCI LAN adapter but if I look at the available options for that I can choose the Hitachi drive (HDD0). If I choose F12 to list boot device options the Hitachi drive is listed there.

The Hitachi drive should be listed under Storage devices. It's obviously detected.

I would run the Hitachi Drive Fitness Test CD download extended test which is excellent and can even repair a failing HD. Then run a full Disk Check from installer Command Line or Partition Wizard CD and you'll know for sure the HD condition.
