No. I haven't got the time to start again from scratch. It just isn't worth it. Windows runs plenty fast enough for me from the HDD, maybe the SSD takes a second or two off loading times, not worth it.
It would take me bare minimum of a solid week's work to get a new Windows set up how my old one was. I don't have that kind of time for little gain. If my old Windows on my HDD was crawling along then maybe but it isn't, its rapid. Also, as I said a while back, I want to have FSX on the SSD and if I had Windows on there as well I wouldn't have enough space.
It wouldnt fit though addram, that was the problem. Im off the system now but the new set up is simple - 2 disks 2 primary partitions. C: the hdd drive as system active and d: the ssd just as a standard partition. No system reserved sections anywhere
Will post it tonight as work calls shortly and ive just shutdown after doing some overnight maintenance as it had been a few months (virus scan, malware bytes, ccleaner, cleaned out temp files using tfc, rebuilt layout.ini file and then a complete name defrag using o&o)
Its worth pointing out ive had 2 side effects since I got back up and running, both easy fixes. 1 - got windows not genuine after resizing cartition. System very slow. Easy fix, just reactivate windows. 2 - one of my fsx addons seems to have an invalid licence now. This could be because of the partition change as well, the license file seems to have gone awol. Again, a 5 min reinstall will fix.
Marci did you even try the Win7 install to SSD that you made to rescue the HD install, before deleting its partition?
You surely would have noticed the lightning fast comparison which makes it the best Upgrade one can have for Win7, even better than buying a new high end PC!
So it isn't just "a few seconds off boot time" but an improvement a $1000+ new PC would not give in speed without an SSD. This is what makes it the strangest thing I've seen in five years and 40,000 posts.
Greg, your missing the point. My problem was never to transfer or get windows onto the ssd. I wanted to get back into my system and I did that. You are only suggesting putting windows 7 on the ssd because that is what you thought I would have to do.
Ive ran windows 7 on other systems on ssd's and its quicker no doubt. Massively quicker-No. Marginally. To say it's one of best upgrades you can do and is like a $1000 machine is ludicrous. Of course you will get quicker read/write times but its never going to replace a fast cpu/ram/gfx card. Also, in my case the ssd would be running at near full capacity and we know what happens to ssd's when they get to near full - performance drops off a cliff
I demonstrated my Core i5 6gb $399 Lenovo G500 w/ $60 SSD to a friend who'd just bought a $1500 Alienware i7 gamer PC with 16gb RAM. He agreed it was twice as fast, did my Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 and it still wasn't as fast. Bought the same SSD I have for $59 and it now is faster than mine.
The reason I asked is because I gave you the fix to boot from SSD your stranded Win7 on HD so that you'd be able to trial Win7 on the SSD to compare. The idea that you wouldn't even try it for 5-10 minutes is what's ludicrous. So much for generosity.
