I have a laptop and it has been working fine for the most of time. Just recently, after a restart, my laptop doesn't boot. I had to disable automatic restart to see the BSOD: a STOP error 0x000000ED Unmountable_Boot_Volume (specifically: 0xFFFFFA80080468C0, 0xFFFFFFFFX0000185, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000). I cannot boot into safe mode, so no dump file. I also tried using the windows repair, but it gets stuck at the blue screen with the flowers and lines and a cursor. I would like to be able to run a hdd test. Any easy way? My other pc doesn't have another hdd slot, and i kinda suck at booting the freedos stuff. Any help? Thx x10

***EDIT*** I just booted into recovery. It just took about 15 minutes of waiting. If there is anything I should try in there please tell me.

I have followed it step by step on a usb, but for some reason my pc doesnt want to boot from it. At boot, I press esc, which brings up a menue of bootable drives. I choose the flash drive, then the screen flashes and the computer continues to boot from the hdd. Should I take out the hdd and try it that way, or will it not make a difference?

Whups... I forgot to update. I was able to run it, and both the long and shot tests failed before even going past 0%. I just want to back it up before I get a replacement. I was looking for a sata to usb, but is there a way to do it without it? I tried doing a "drive transplant" but for some reason this functional hdd is not functional in my other laptop... (My laptop has two hdd slots, and I pluged both the working and non-working ones. This hdd doesn't boot on that laptop tho...)
