Just asking some questions .... have you updated the 150Mbps Wireless N adapter driver from Download - Welcome to TP-LINK

Match your device model from the list here ..... (you will get this page by following the link above)

The last BSOD uploaded in this thread is caused by this driver.

Wherefrom you updated it? If from the link I stated above, it it the latest one that you can get?

Let us know.

Also, as a test only, disable the webcam and do some USB related troubleshooting. For the ports, first, uninstall and reinstall the USB ports drivers.

  1. Right click on Computer icon > manage. It will open the computer management window.
  2. Click on "Device Manager" in the left pane, it will list all installed devices up.
  3. Expand "USB Serial Bus Controllers" by clicking on the triangle in front of it.
  4. Click on one item to select, then right click and uninstall.
  5. Do the same for all.
  6. Restart the computer.
  7. At restart, windows will auto configure the appropriate drivers.
And, Disable USB Selective Suspense too.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

For the devices, first, detach all the USB devices other than the keyboard and mouse.
Then, Update the drivers for them all, including the keyboard and mouse, if any third party drivers are installed for them.

Also have a look at http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/165554-usb-driver-general-fix-problems.html.

But, first of all, it is to know that is the installed athur.sys is the latest wireless N driver that you can have? If so, how old the adapter is?

TP LInk driver manually updated from TP link website.
Device is just a couple years old. They still sell them and still support them.
I've update the athr.sys driver more than a couple times, so why would it
roll itself back?

I never use the webcam, it is always disabled.
Selective Suspend has always been disabled.

Windows did not autoconfigure anything for the USB,
it now says 'driver not found'.

I was unable to complete the general directions for USB / General Fix
as even after editing the permissions, I still can't delete the infcache.1 driver.

So you updated the drivers and those rolled back automatically?

Contract your vendor and ask them to supply the driver that they provide to the new buyers.

Do you use any driver to initialize the adapter? If so, update that driver too. And the vendor can supply the appropriate drivers I hope.

I'd like to get the USB controller drivers reinstalled and close this thread.

I uninstalled them (did not delete) as directed.
They were not automatically reinstalled by WinBlows.

The chipset drivers are up to date per the intel website

I can not DL any USB controller drivers through the HP website;
they are not available.

thanks.

jtkm, it is the first time the USB driver uninstall instruction failed. I dont know why it failed, but as it is unwanted, we should try to recover it.

See ... those are your USB hardware resources.

RESOURCE | DEVICE
IRQ 23 | Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C8
IRQ 23 | Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC
IRQ 16 | Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CB
IRQ 19 | Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C9

Here is the PnP device IDs:

DEVICE | PnP_DEVICE_ID
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C8 | PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C8&SUBSYS_308F103C&REV_02\3&11583659&0&E8
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C9 | PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C9&SUBSYS_308F103C&REV_02\3&11583659&0&E9
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CA | PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27CA&SUBSYS_308F103C&REV_02\3&11583659&0&EA
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CB | PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27CB&SUBSYS_308F103C&REV_02\3&11583659&0&EB
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC | PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27CC&SUBSYS_308F103C&REV_02\3&11583659&0&EF

And here are the drivers who controls those all ..... all the drivers are system drivers, and no third party drivers.

NAME|DESCRIPTION|FILE|TYPE
usbccgp | Microsoft USB Generic Parent Driver | c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbccgp.sys | Kernel Driver
usbcir | eHome Infrared Receiver (USBCIR) | c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbcir.sys | Kernel Driver
usbehci | Microsoft USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller Miniport Driver | c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbehci.sys | Kernel Driver
usbhub | Microsoft USB Standard Hub Driver | c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbhub.sys | Kernel Driver
usbohci | Microsoft USB Open Host Controller Miniport Driver | c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbohci.sys | Kernel Driver
usbprint | Microsoft USB PRINTER Class | c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbprint.sys | Kernel Driver
usbscan | USB Scanner Driver | c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbscan.sys | Kernel Driver
usbstor | USB Mass Storage Driver | c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbstor.sys | Kernel Driver
usbuhci | Microsoft USB Universal Host Controller Miniport Driver | c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbuhci.sys | Kernel Driver
usbvideo | USB Video Device (WDM) | c:\windows\system32\drivers\usbvideo.sys | Kernel Driver

All are system default drivers. No intel or third party drivers are there. Those system drivers are must to be auto-configured upon a restart.

Still, I request you to upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.

  1. Click on the start button
  2. Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
  3. File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
  4. Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
  5. Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
It will help to compare, to review the extent of damaged caused.

BTW, no third party driver will be auto configured. Those are to be installed manually. It was directed in my previous post.
For the devices, first, detach all the USB devices other than the keyboard and mouse.
Then, Update the drivers for them all, including the keyboard and mouse, if any third party drivers are installed for them.
And none of the ports are controlled by any third party driver, as we can see from the above expression.

Waiting for your reply, hopefully the damage, if it is there, will be recovered.

As like those, I have the list of all your third party USB related drivers. I will compare it with the recent msinfo32, will check which drivers are missing and will provide you the links to get them.

Nothing will go wrong, it never went wrong.

Archie, seems to be a reinstall would be the best to do now.
A clean reinstall will solve all the driver related issues, at once. If you follow http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html, you can get the best possible clean reinstall, which will maximize windows native performance.

Uh, you're saying you told me to uninstall drivers that now can't be reinstalled without a nuke and reshoot?

Of course I'd like to try reinstalling the missing drivers that I was just assured are not missing.

This link does not lead to a driver BTW, it's broken

As for clean reinstall: No thanks. I'll install Linux or Hackintosh this box before I waste any more time with Windows. Hard to trust when y'all have different feedback and so far, my box is worse off than
it was when I got here. Just sayin'.

Yours is the first case where the uninstalled host controllers are not being reinstalled at a reboot.

Windows has native host controller drivers. Those take the load automatically. The host controllers you have got installed are part of your chipset driver. We all know it that the ports work good even before the chipset is installed.

Sorry for the mess caused by me .... I did not expect that the instruction that worked good for at least 500 times will fail to work for you. This instruction solved a fairly large number of USB related issues. Its my bad luck that it failed this time.

Expressing my apologies. Forgive me if you can.

I will suggest the same again, and this will work flawlessly. I know it. It's empirical.

Sorry for the delay getting back Archie. I hope I'm not too late. I finally got back into SF. Right after posting in VIP and getting the confirmation screen I was back in the old server and couldn't get out. Re-boot, Flush, CCleaner, Renew, ..., nothing worked. Ended up finding an option in IE to refresh pages that finally worked. But then I just had it happen again. It appears my IE10 data option keeps resetting to "Automatic" and I get sent back to the old server.

In any case, (To the OP) I'm not sure a re-install will activate the hub controllers. Do they show up in Device Manager? If not, try to clear CMOS memory. This should force the BIOS to re-evaluate the hardware and make Windows install the drivers.

Also, in Device Manager, click View in tool bar and select Show Hidden Devices. If the hubs show there, just try to enable the devices.

I hope this posts.

Arc: I'm not mad at you at all really, just frustrated with MS. Lose no sleep over it. I agree, you only offered assistance.

THANK YOU *CARWIZ* and *ARC* (for not giving up!)

all drivers are now reinstalled.
after multiple reboots and attempts with the windows updater
I cleared CMOS and then windows updater actually updated about half the missing USB controller drivers,
and on the next reboot, it loaded them all.

The difference was I plugged in the TP Link wireless adapter (and reloaded the TP link driver)
after which, all else magically worked.
