Solved BSOD caused by dxgkrnl.sys+5d134

I've been getting some Random BSOD lately sometimes i go days without a BSOD sometimes it does it 2 or 3 times in a day not sure what the problem is.

OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
CPU:Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650
Video Card: Asus Mini Direct Nvidia GF 4GB GTX970
Installed System Memory 8GB Of Ram

Ok mate that will be good and just a by the by I saw you have your specs in your post - that is really helpful as so many post in and one has to ask for them

Actually I have that CPU in my older test desky - not bad for a 775 socket eh? I actually tried buying a spare 9650 and they were like hens teeth and very pricey.

Had this pc for years yea i had a 775 then up to a q9650....I had to download the Reg for the Complete Dump file on Re-Start as it wasn't selection hope i did this correctly lol.

I Restarted with the Complete Selection Option enabled then ran the DM Log. was that the correct Sequence?

If i Remember correctly i paid close to 150 for the Q9650 Very Pricy indeed :-D Then Up to a Radeon 7500 1GB just after a GTX 750 and Finally the GTX970

Yep the dumps cam through ok though I am still wondering what is going on. Now if it is ok with you I might get one of the others to take a look.

Oh by the way that 9650 I priced up was nearly $400!! and that was the cheapest of the only two I could find.

Anyway I will ask the others I think they might see something I am missing.

The LGA775 Sckt is pretty good my previous Processor before the Core 2 quad Q9650 was the Core 2 Duo E7500 lol i wasnt to clear on the above post.

That old E7500 wasnt to bad eaither before the E7500 i had something else i dont recall what it was but im thinking It was an old Pentium Dual core.

$400 wow I actually purchased mines for $150 on Ebay Used had it for 3 years or so not one problem works great.

Ok mate sorry this is taking so long but can you post the up to date dump files as before. If I can see anything different in them then it might make a difference.
If not I know a chap who is really good with stuff - well much better than me who may take a look at the dumps.

Now while I am thinking of it are you running any out of the ordinary softwares and you don't have any AV listed either.
The other thing that struck me too looking at your specs again the PSU I think is a little on the small side at 450 watts.

Now one thing to do to check what size PSU you need is to use this OuterVision Power Supply Calculator < run it and type in the components you have hooked up or can have hooked and it will give you an idea of what size PSU you should need - it does err on the side of caution but not by much as i think you do have a lot of drives for example running which by the way if you have only the OS (C drive connected does that make any difference to the problems?

Will give the calculator a try and repost the zip with the new updated crashes. Thanks again for the help. Havent tried disconnecting other components to see if it makes a difference these crashes are so random and at times i can go a full week without any crashes.


UPDATE calculator results picturs didt crop correctly but the results was 406watts with recomended UPS Rating of 800V and a recomended 456w PSU

I will postthe updated zip a little later once the comp is up an running im actually doing all this on my phone at the moment

Ok now in view of the machine's age - not that it makes those specs you have any less than excellent but as you can see you may be pushing the limits with the PSU you have in.

Myself when I have built and refurbed machines I tend to wards having a 20% - 30% "overkill" to what the calculator gives out. It of course depends on your budget but if you do go for say a 600 - 650 watt PSU do make sure you get a decent brand - some of the budget ones are just that - budget. The better PSU tend generally to have better circuitry and components installed in them.

My choice if I were you would be a Corsair (all my deskies bar one are powered by these), Seasonic (can be a bit pricey but extremely good) Coolermaster and Antec. In a nutshell they take the mains voltage and through an inverting circuitry turn a high voltage low current supply (mains) into a low voltage high current supply in the various voltages that are required. The ratings for these are on a percentage efficiency rating for example what goes in is usually lower than what comes out because of the power that is consumed changing the mains to computer voltage/s. For example when buying one one that is rated at 80% efficiency will use more mains power then one that is at 90% efficiency simply because the circuitry inside is more efficient.

Now I am assuming you are in the US so take a look at this site Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more - Newegg.com now the third one on that listing would be ample for what you want and it isn't expensive. You will see that some are modular that just means the the leads from the unit are plugged in at the unit so removing the PSU means that you do not have to disconnect everything at the board - the others not marked with the M - all cables are permanently connected to the unit . You will also see that rating I mentioned as bronze (80%) or whatever.
You will also see refurbished units if I were you do not be tempted to buy one of them I feel you are just buying someone else's problems.

Sorry for such a diatribe but it is important to me that you know about these things before you go dashing off and buying the first thing that is offered you

I'ts been a while now so i figure its safe to say i may have fixed the problem. I'd like to thank you for suggesting the PSU I'm definitely going to be ordering one soon just to be on the safe side.

I've googled all these Errors and Random Crashed and most results seen on other Forums is Memory Related RAM I've taken the PC Apart Removed all Ram Modules cleaned them up i then went out and Purchased Pressured Air can Dusters and blew some building up dust in the surrounding area.

I've RE-Installed the RAM Modules in a different Pattern after leaving the PC On for several hours within the week i haven't seen the BSOD Crash at all.

Thats good it is going and yes it could be anything but the PSU I think is a must but the rest of what you have done may have indeed done the rick - problems don'y always have to be complicated - well done

Hey Thanks for all your help I looked at the PSU from that link you provided that's a great deal and will definitely be ordering it PSU on here isn't that old maybe a year at most but i agree 450W is kinda pushing it
