BSOD caused by ntoskrnl.exe, also random Chrome crashes ("Oh snap")

Hello,

I've just returned from my holidays and my computer startet to behave rather weird. First things I noticed was random "oh snap"-errors in Google Chrome. I updated Flash Player, tried a new Chrome profile and even reinstalled Chrome but nothing helped.

Tonight I had the first bluescreen while running a backup to my NAS.
A few minutes ago I had a second BSOD, this time while scanning the computer for malware with Spybot Search & Destroy.
I checked the MiniDumps with BlueScreenView, which indicated that they were caused by ntoskrnl.exe.
I have no idea if the Chrome errors and the bluescreens are related or if this is just coincidence.

I didn't change any hardware or software lately, apart from windows and software updates.

My hardware:

Gigabyte Z77X-U3DH
8 GB DDR3 Memory
ASUS GTX 670
Samsung 830 SSD 256 GB
WD Black 1 TB
WD Green 2 TB
Asus Xonar soundcard

Antivirus is Avast, which I have been using for years now.

My CPU is oced to 4 GHz, but worked stable like this for more than two years now and wasn't using its full boost at the time of the bluescreens.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The Atheros NIC driver I'm using is the newest there is for this network adapter. So I can't really do anything there.

I'm currently in the progress of reinstalling the NVIDIA drivers. Would be a "good" things, if the problem was caused by the GPU, since I want to buy a new one very soon.

Can you give me the model number of your adaptor? Is it a PCI adaptor?

Its an onboard adapter.

I just had a strange error with the NVIDIA driver. When I wanted to extract the setup files to my Samsung 830 system drive, I got a 7Zip CRC error. I downloaded the driver once more from a different source, same problem. Extracting to my WD Green worked though. Maybe my SSD is broken?

Samsung Magician reports that it is in a good health state. Performance test also worked fine.

NVIDIA drivers are now updated by the way. I'll play some games tonight and will report back, if I encounter more problems.

Chrome keeps to annoy me with the "oh snap" errors, even when I had no NVIDIA driver installed. I now deactivated all extensions but Adblock Plus (which I just installed in exchange for Betafish Adblocker), maybe this helps.

Hmmm, a CRC error when trying to extract to the SSD doesn't sound too good. Normally it would probably indicate a corrupt download but I doubt that's the case with a driver direct from nVidia (although not impossible) and especially if it's extracting to the Green. Which drive did you download the zip file to?

On another note, your Ethernet controller is integrated into your motherboard yes?

The files where downloaded to my WD Green. I just tried it once more with the auto extractor, this time it worked from WD Green to SSD. Strange.

It is, I just edited that information to my previous post, but you where a little bit too fast there.

Well, since I'm running several Android devices I would prefer to stick with Chrome. But I could try to run Firefox or something else parallel. However first I want to give it some more time, so far no errors in chrome with the deactivated addons.

No more BSOD so far, but I just had one more "Oh snap!" in Chrome. I will look into that and might open a new thread in the appropriate section.
I leave this one open for a few more days though, just in case the bluescreens return.

I just had some more Chrome crashes and also some problems in CS:GO. I googled one of the error messages the game produced and one site indicated that it might be caused by faulty memory. So I ran Memtest86+ and voilá. Lots and lots of error messages, over one hundred in the first two minutes.
I'm going to order new memory now. If that doesn't solve it, the motherboard will be next target of investigation.
I'll keep you updated.

Edit: New memory, no more errors in Memtest86+. I consider this solved now. Thanks for your help!
