Also, yes, I have heard very food things about aftermarket NB coolers. I, personally, do not have experience with them. But you would have to find one that fits your application.

I would NOT "glue" a fan onto the factory heat sink, if you need me to elaborate why not, I can.

Lastly, have you contacted Gigabyte about the heat issue?

I have the GPU in the only x16 PCIE slot on my board, which is recommended for the best performance, the Gigabyte page on my motherboard states "For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot."


I haven't contacted Gigabyte, I'm not sure how they would be able to help, general google searches on Gigabyte show that I'm not alone and a LOT of people have Gigabyte boards and are worried about high north bridge temperatures. Seems like a manufacturing error, the heatsink doesn't feel secure and can quite easily slide and become loose due to the spring clips used being horrible.

I'll start looking for an aftermarket NB cooler now, hopefully I can find one that would fit, I'll take some measurements, and if it doesn't have a fan I'll get a 40mm and see what I can do.

Anything else you could recommend would be appreciated.

Just going to add for the first time in quite a while I have just been on a game and I crashed, after well over an hour of playing, Ambient temperature in the room must be above normal because I feel pretty hot, while crashed I quickly checked the temperature of the northbridge heatsink, it was nearing 80*C, which is the highest I have ever read it at. Gaming seems to generate even more heat than intentionally stressing my PC to 100% load.

I really need to sort this out now, annoyed at Gigabyte, stupid north bridge has been the problem since the start. Going to see what aftermarket North Bridge coolers are out there.

Yeah, freak, have you tried to RMA it? I know going without is going to suck, but maybe they can get you a better one? I haven't found this to be a common issue. You may just have a bad NB. Keep in touch.

While I realize that you've replaced the case since then, that would indicate to me that your power supply is maxed out. Fans draw lots of current, but LEDs don't. Most people forget to factor cooling into the PS requirement, so you may want to go back and look at it again. As another poster mentioned, maxing a power supply reduces its life but--more important--it causes fluctuations that can damage your components.

It has been a while, I never did RMA it,

When I got my new case I took my old one apart, and opened the fan up to look at the circuit board in the side panel, and noticed a black burn mark, so I figured it just failed on me, the power button and LED's still worked, but the fan itself did not.

Since my last post I bought myself an NZXT Sentry Mesh fan controller, and hooked all of my fans up to it, so now when I'm just surfing the internet, watching videos etc... I keep the fans low, since the cooling is sufficient, and when I do something demanding, such as gaming, I max out all of the fans which again is sufficient, and I don't crash anymore.

The times I have forgotten to max my fans out and played a game, I have crashed a couple of times, which for me points directly to overheating, since the fans were all running at 40% whenever I have crashed. Unless you can think of another reason.

Fan-wise, in the new case, I have a stock Zalman 120mm front intake, an Aerocool Shark 120mm bottom intake (82.6 CFM max), an Arctic F12 back exhaust (74 CFM max), and another 120mm Zalman stock top exhaust. The Case itself has an 80mm Zalman exhaust fan in each side panel which pulls air from the hard drives apparently. Oh, and I DIY'd a 40mm Scythe Mini Kaze Ultra to the top of the northbridge heatsink, which I think I mentioned earlier.

It seems to have worked, there's still a problem, but it's something I'm trying to manage since I'm convinced it is an overheating problem. I'm still open to suggestions though.

Hello Joe. Good to see you again. My only suggestion, would still be to RMA the board. Even though you are able to "manage" the crashing with good cooling, it's still a sign that the board has a defect. Other than that, sounds like things are good. I hope that you decide to take the plunge and RMA the board, before it's too late.

You've got any solution for your Heat-issue?

I got the same problems!

I watched different problems on my temperetures.

The temeperture climbs within 3 seconds up to 65 degrees on specific use...

When i run Benchmark Vantage 2011, all works fine till the CPU / Physik test.

When the first Frames release, my System-speaker sounds like a Buzzer and CPU is displayed at 65 degrees. Just in that moment i abbort test the "System-Buzzer" went quiet and tempereture from CPU went down to 35 within 5 seconds.

I don't think that my Freezer 7 Pro (Rev.2) can handle 30 degrees in 5 seconds!

Other problem i watched was the Fan-handling with the Boxed one...

System pushed him up to 100% for minutes just by Opening Firefox or Windows-Explorer.

I run the latest BIOS-Version F4, with nearby all on default settings.

Just AHCI for SATA HDD-Drive and SMART CPU FAN Control is turned on...

By the way, my Northbridge is burning my Finger too. Just from 15 minutes Idle-Mode Win7...
