For the past couple of weeks whenever I try to shutdown windows it hangs on the shutdown screen for a while, blue screens and then restarts. If I try to shutdown the computer from the login screen once it restarts, it will shutdown. I've tried troubleshooting but have been unsuccessful. Can someone please help?

The zip file containing all required files can be found below.

Thanks.

Avast contributes to BSOD's. Please remove it for testing purpose. Use Microsoft Security Essentials.

Recommended from a strict BSOD perspective, compatibility & stability compared to other security software:

Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows

Malwarebytes - Free

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable!:-

Hey Koolkat,

Sorry for the late reply but I haven't been able to do anything until now. Thank you for responding by the way.

So far, I have uninstalled avast and replaced it with MS security essentials and updated iaStor.sys (since it was likely the cause of the problem). I have run several shut downs and no longer seem to get a BSOD. I will continue to update the other outdated drives for the sake of updating and run the other tests.

I'm going to continue testing for a few days to ensure that the problem is fixed, after which I will mark the topic as solved. If the issue persists you may hear from me again :p.

Thanks for your help.
